SCRANTON, Pa. – Lackawanna College wrestling made it two clean sweeps on two straight weekends, taking all three duals on Saturday afternoon from RPI (30-16), Bergen CC (41-18) and Keystone College (30-3) inside the Lackawanna College Student Union.
Â
The Falcons (6-0) were led by
Dylan Hogan (Bushkill, PA), who had three victories in three matches,
Rei Yonamine (Scranton, PA) who grabbed a pair of wins and a forfeit victory, and
Kordell Waiters (Macungie, PA), who also had two wins and a forfeit win.
Â
In the first dual, the Falcons faced the RPI club wrestling squad. After
Braulio Hurtado (Allentown, PA) won by forfeit at 133, Waiters made his first appearance of the day, earning a tech fall victory over Tyler Stroup from RPI with an 18-3 score. Yonamine followed at 149 with a 14-1 major decision win, and then
Evan Raposo (East Stroudsburg, PA) won a decision that made it 18-0, Falcons, after four bouts.
Â
A Hogan fall victory in the last stages of the first period made it 24-0, but RPI managed to get a major decision win at 174 to make it 24-4. A pair of forfeitures from the Falcons at 184 and 197 brought RPI within 24-16, but a forfeit win at 285 gave the Falcons the 30-16 victory.
Â
In the second dual, Lackawanna faced fellow Region XIX foe Bergen CC. The Bulldogs got a forfeit win at 125, but Hurtado earned a tech fall at 133 by a 15-0 score, bringing it to 6-5, Bergen. Waiters then won his match in just 28 seconds with a fall, which kick-started a 30-point streak from the Falcons, highlighted by a fascinating bout at 157 between Raposo and Bergen's Dylan Toro, which finished with a Raposo pin at 5:26. The Falcons eventually won the dual by a 41-18 margin.
Â
In the final dual of the day for Lackawanna, the Falcons took on their old rivals, the Keystone College Giants. There was no bout at 125, and the Falcons picked up forfeit wins at 133 and 141 for the early 12-0 advantage. At 149, Yonamine earned a fall just 58 seconds into his bout, which gave the Falcons an 18-0 cushion. Keystone got on the board after CJ Riccobono knocked off Raposo at 157 in a 9-4 decision, making it 18-3. Hogan got the Falcons back on the winning track, taking a back-and-forth dual at 165 with Keystone's Codi Bomboy with a fall at 4:55. The Falcons led, at that point, 24-3.
Â
At 174,
Simeon Hunte (Burlington Twp, NJ) picked up a solid win by decision over Keystone's Alex Norton with a 16-9 score, boosting the Falcons to a 27-3 advantage. No bouts occurred at 184 or 197, so the last bout of the afternoon was the heavyweight bout between
Shannon Core (Scranton, PA) and Keystone's Brendan Hamilton. The big guys went all three rounds, and it was Core scoring the victory, 13-6, to give the Falcons the 30-3 win and the sweep on the afternoon.
Â
The Falcons have some time off between now and their next dual, which is scheduled for Sunday, February 12
th, against the Union County College Owls. Then, the Falcons have to get ready for Saturday, February 18
th, when they host the NJCAA Gulf Atlantic District National Qualifiers inside the Lackawanna College Student Union.
