FB: Falcons Fly With Dominant Second Half In 42-11 Win Over Georgia Military

Lackawanna College Stunned The 7th Ranked Bulldogs With Over 500 Yards Of Offense And Five Second Half Touchdowns.

Box Score 11/12/22

SCRANTON, Pa. -- Lackawanna College exacted revenge in its second match-up of the year with Georgia Military College, posting 562 yards against one of the nation's top defenses en route to a 42-11 victory at home at Scranton's Memorial Stadium.

The #11 Falcons (7-1) looked nothing like the team that dropped a 34-12 decision to GMC two months ago in Georgia. This version of Lackawanna College was dominant on both sides of the ball, averaging seven yards per play and rolling up a balanced attack of 288 on the ground and 274 yards through the air. Defensively, Lackawanna held Georgia Military to just one yard rushing on 28 carries, while limiting the Bulldogs to just 128 yards of total offense. GMC had just ten first downs, four of which came on penalties.

Barry Brown (Philadelphia, PA) was masterful once again, going 19-for-29 for 274 yards and three scores, while Terez Worthy (Salisbury, MD) ran for a season-high 181 yards on 20 carries, and two touchdowns, including a galloping 75-yarder to start the fourth quarter that put things out of reach, for good, after the Bulldogs had pulled within ten. Petey Tucker (Hyattsville, MD) led the Falcons with five catches for 100 yards and a touchdown, and Brown connected on passes with seven different receivers on the day.

Lackawanna College had ten tackles-for-loss and seven sacks. Willie Matthews (Montclair, NJ) led the way with five solo tackles, while Isaiah Oduro (North Brunswick, NJ) added five solo tackles of his own, including a sack. Keeno Arrington (Pittsburgh, PA) added an interception, the lone takeaway of the game for the Falcon defense.

After a tight first half that only saw the Falcons holding a 7-3 advantage into the break, Lackawanna forced a punt to start the third, and then marched on an 8-play, 80-yard drive that took about 3:30 off the clock, capped by a Brown pass to Raymond Poremba (Phillipsburg, NJ). The Falcons, after another punt, tacked on another, this time an 8-play, 82-yard drive capped by Brown connecting with Tucker from 31 yards out to push the Falcon lead to 21-3.

#7 Georgia Military (8-2) managed to hit some chunk plays and, buoyed by a few Falcon penalties, scored on a 2-yard run by Riley Myers to start the fourth quarter. After a two-point conversion, the lead was cut to 21-11, in favor of Lackawanna College.

Terez Worthy would change the complexion of the game on the next play from scrimmage, darting through the middle of the defense and then cutting to his left, hitting the afterburners and never looking back for a 75-yard touchdown run that pushed the Falcon lead to 28-11.

Another punt led to another Falcon touchdown, as the offense took 11 plays and five minutes to go 61 yards, capped by an 7-yard touchdown pass from Brown to Justin Thompson (Ambridge, PA). The next GMC possession stalled out on their own 47, and the Falcons put an exclamation point on things with a 47-yard run from Worthy, this time bursting up the middle and cutting to his right on his way to the end zone, putting the Falcons in front 42-11.

The win should guarantee the Falcons at least a postseason bowl berth, and now sets up a massive match-up next week, when current #5 Snow College comes to Scranton for a 12:00pm ET kickoff at Scranton Memorial Stadium. It also puts Mark Duda one win away from 200 for his illustrious 29-year career as the head football coach at Lackawanna College.
