Kyle Scott pitches Five-Inning No-Hitter in Falcons’ Win

May 2, 2021

Scranton, PA - Sunday afternoon the Lackawanna College baseball team played Harford Community College for the third time this season. The Falcons fell twice to the Owls in those previous twin-bills. Today that changed as Lackawanna split with Harford losing the first game 7-4 before claiming a ten-run rule victory in the nightcap 11-1 on a Kyle Scott five-inning no-hitter.

In the opening game of the doubleheader the Owls scored two runs in the opening frame. However, the Falcons quickly bounced back in the bottom of the inning to tie the score on RBI doubles by German Vasquez and Jesnel Soto. Harford retook the lead by pushing two runs across the plate in the second and another run in the fourth. Losing 5-2 in the bottom of the inning George Castro blasted a two-run homer to cut the Owl lead to one, 5-4. That would be as close as Lackawanna came for the game as Harford scored unanswered runs in the fifth and the sixth to claim the win.

The Falcons recorded five extra-base hits and three multi-hit games in the contest. Registering the extra-base hits were Jacob Kelchner, Raymond Vorhees, Vasquez and Soto with doubles and Castro with his home run. Vorhees (3-1-2-0), Vasquez (4-1-3-1) and Soto (3-0 2-1) provided the multi-hit games.

Zack Klapak suffered the loss even though he struck out ten in the five innings he pitched. Working two innings of relief Kyle Borrello struck out three.

In the nightcap Harford scored the first run of the contest on a Kyle Scott wild pitch. It would be their only run of the game as Scott hurled five innings of no-hit ball giving up no further runs and striking out 11.

The Lackawanna nine provided all the runs Scott required by scoring seven runs in the second on an RBI double by Jesnel Soto and run-scoring singles by Matthew Nyce, Raymond Vorhees, and David Curreri, a passed ball and Owl error. The Falcons added two unearned runs in the third, a run in the fourth on a Jacob DiCesare double, and the game-ending run in the fifth on a Curreri bases-loaded walk.

The Falcons ended the day with four extra-base hits and two multi-hit performances. The extra-base hits consisted of DiCesare's two doubles, Soto's double, and Curreri's triple, while DiCesare (2-2-2-1) and Curreri provided the (3-1-2-2) provided the multi-hit performances.
