Middletown, NY -Â Saturday afternoon the Lackawanna College softball team ended their 2021 regular season with a doubleheader at Orange Community College. The Falcons took both contests in eight-run shortened games, 18-7 and 11-1.
In game oneÂ
Morgan Mesaris led the Falcons to their 18-7 victory. She drove in five runs on two hits, both homers in the second. The first was a two-run dinger and her second was a three-run slam.
The Falcons started scoring in the first inning on
Makenzie Rose's RBI double, an error and a
Madison McVicar run-scoring single. In the second inning Lackawanna expanded its initial three-run lead with 11 additional scores. Mesaris's two homers in the same inning tallied five of those runs. The other six came on another Rose double, a two-run double by
Gabrielle Vuocolo, a
Nevaeh Ross RBI single and a two-run homer off the bat of
Felicia Saar. The Falcons completed their scoring in the fifth on
Kamden Miller's three-run homer and
Lynda Lawrence's run-scoring double. Orange scored four runs in the third and three more in the fifth but at no time offered a threat to Lackawanna.
The Falcons recorded 11 extra-base hits, two homers by Mesaris, a home run by Saar, a dinger by Miller, two doubles by Rose and solo doubles by Lawrence, Saar, Vuocolo, Miller and
Skylynn Gilligan. Lackawanna's lineup also had five multi-hit players, Rose (2-3-2-2), Mesaris (3-3-2-5, McVicar (3-1-2-1), Miller (4-2-2-3) and Saar (2-2-2-2).
Meghan Fritz earned the victory. The right-hander surrendered four runs on six hits over three innings, striking out three and walking one. Mackayla Quick threw two innings in relief.
In game two the Falcons bats remained hot as they scored seven runs in the first innings. Lackawanna scored on
Gianna Telesco's two-run single and additional run-scoring singles by Felica Saar,
Lynda Lawrence and
Chloe Fluharty. Lackawanna also scored on an RBI walk by Neveah Ross and a sacrifice fly by
Isabella Mandarano's sacrifice fly. Ross and Lawernce drove in two more runs in the top of the second on Ross's RBI single and Lawerence's run-scoring ground out. The Falcons completed their scoring in the fifth on Kamden's two-run homer. It was Miller's second home run of the twin-bill.
Miller's home run was Lackawanna's only extra-base hit in game two. Saar (2-2-2-1) and Telesco (2-2-2-2) had the Falcons-only multi-hit contests.
Stephanie Kibbe took the win. She held Orange scoreless on four hits over three innings, striking out one and walking no one.
Tess Ruschman threw the final two innings in relief.
