Lackawanna Takes Two in Friday Twinbill

March 26, 2021

Catonsville, MD - The Lackawanna College Softball team traveled south to Catonsville to Maryland to take on CCBC Catonsville in a Friday afternoon doubleheader. It proved to be an enjoyable trip for the Falcons as they swept both games by scores of 12-6 and 8-0.

Lackawanna took a second-inning 1-0 lead in the first game when Savanah Glover singled in the second inning to score Makenzie Rose. It was a short-lived lead as Catonsville scored two in the bottom of the inning. That would be the only lead the Cardinals would have during the game. In the third the Falcons rebounded with three more when Gianna Telesco drove in a run on a fielder's choice, MacKayla Quick doubled in a run and another scored on Makenzie Rose's sacrifice fly. The teams traded runs over the next three innings, with each squad scoring a run in the fifth and two each in the sixth. Both Kamden Miller and Gabrielle Vucolo highlighted the hitting during that stretch. Miller contributed an RBI single while Vucolo tripled in a run. In the seventh, Lackawanna cliniched the victory with a five-run rally on RBI singles by Felicia Saar and Kamden Miller and a run-scoring double by Telesco.

Five Falcons had multi-hit games. They were Savannah Glover (4-1-3-1), Gabrielle Vuocolo (5-3-2-2, 3B) Kamden Miller (4-3-3-2, 2B) Gianna Telesco (4-1-2-3, two 2Bs) and Makenzie Rose (3-1-2-1, 2B).

MacKayla Quick received credit for the win, while Stephanie Kibbe earned a save.

Meghan Fritz was the star of the second game as she shutout the Cardinals on four hits over six innings of work. The Lackawanna offense gave Fritz the only runs she needed when they scored two runs in the first on a single by Gianna Telesco and a bases load walk to Lynda Lawrence. The Falcons would score again in the second with a Kamden Miller sacrifice fly, three more in the third inning on a Fritz ground out, a Gabrielle Vuocolo Sacrifice and a solo homer by Miller. Lackawanna would end its scoring in the 6th on RBI singles by both Isabella Mandarano and Tess Ruschman.

Four Lackawanna players had multi-hit games in the nightcap. They were Vuocolo (2-2-2-1, two 2Bs), Raushman (3-0-2-1, 2B) Skylynn Gilligan (4-0-2-0, 2B) and Lawrence (3-1-2-1, 2B). Miller had the team's only home run.

The Falcons play again on April 1st to Monroe College in New Rochelle, New York.
