Scranton, PA -Â The Lackawanna College baseball team opened their Region 19 play with a doubleheader sweep of Sussex County Community College. Lackawanna claimed the first game 18-13 and the second game 18-8.
The opening game of today's doubleheader turned into slugfest as the Falcons outscored Sussex 18-13. Both teams combined for 12 doubles with 16 double-related RBIs. Fortunately for Lackawanna the Falcons bested the Skylanders in those categories. Lackawanna's
Colin Macko started the game with a RBI double in the second inning and a two-RBI two-bagger in the third. In that same inning the Falcons' catcher Cody Fleicher scored Macko on his first of three doubles in the game. In the nine-run fifth Fleicher drove in two runs with a double as did Ray Vorhees.Â
German Vasquez added to the run-scoring two-baggers with a three-RBI double in the same inning. In his only at-bat of the game Alex Antigua struck Lackawanna's last double of the game in the sixth, which drove in the Falcons final two runs of the contest. Â
Jaden Tabler received credit for the win.
Five Falcons had multi-hit days. Fleicher (5-3-3-3, three 2B), Barndon Ernst (3-3-2-1),
Quinn Hanafin (3-4-2-0), Macko (3-2-2-2, two 2B) and
George Castro (3-1-2-1) all contributed. During this pitcher's nightmare neither team put one out of the ballpark.
In the nightcap the Falcons bats remained hot as they scored in each of the game's first five innings. Especially impressive was
Quinn Hanafin who drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the second, four runs in the fourth with a grand slam home run and an RBi Double in the fifth.
Two other Falcons who impressed with their extra-base efforts were
George Castro and
German Vasquez. Castro tripled in the second with bases loaded while Vasquez drove in a run with a single in the first, a double in the second and two more with a two-bagger in the third.
German Vasquez (3-1-3-4, two 2B), Quin Hanafin (3-2-3-6, 2b, HR), Ray Vorhees (2-3-2-1, 2B0) and
Jake Kelchner (3-3-2-0)Â each had four multi-hit games.Â
Kyle Scott was the winning pitcher in the 18-8 victory.
