HAGERSTOWN, Md. – The Lackawanna College Men's Soccer team earned win #1 of the season on the road, 1-0, against Hagerstown CC on Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons (1-2-1) got the game's only goal in the 62
nd minute from
Ahmed Kaid, his first of the season, on an assist from Armani Forbes. From there, Lackawanna College weathered the storm from the Hawks (2-8-0) to pick up the first win of the Joe Evans era.
The first 15 minutes were pretty evenly matched, but the pressure from Hagerstown CC ramped up, as the Hawks forced a
Gerard Borosky clearance off the line in the 17
th minute, and then missed on a header that hit the post one minute later.
Matthew Pfohl saved a shot from a corner kick in the 20
th minute, while each team cycled through substitutions. A
Malik Yusuff shot forced a save from the Hawks in the 34
th minute, while another corner kick for Hagerstown went nowhere in the 36
th minute.
Ahmed Kaid closed out the half with one final shot on goal, saved by the Hawks in the 44
th minute.
Both teams would really start to trade blows after the interval, as both keepers were forced into action with saves before Lackawanna found the breakthrough on Kaid's goal in the 62
nd minute.
After that, the Falcons forced a few shots, but really had to be compact and defend, as the Hawks peppered the final third with crosses, shots, and possession. Pfohl saved a header in the 67
th minute, and 30 seconds later, another shot from Hagerstown was blocked down. In the 69
th minute, another header almost found its way through, but was saved off the line by Yusuff. A flurry of corners and shots would come from the Hawks, but nothing to truly threaten the Falcons' lead.
The Falcons had back-to-back chances in the 88
th minute, but both shots from
Bitakuja Ndizeye and Forbes were saved by the Hagerstown CC keeper. One last Hawk shot would go wide in the 89
th minute, securing the first victory of the season.
Lackawanna College was outshot 16-to-13, but was a little more accurate, putting nine shots-on-goal to the six from Hagerstown.
Matthew Pfohl had four saves to maintain his first clean sheet of the season.

th when they host Northampton CC at Schautz Stadium in Dunmore. Kickoff is set for 3:00pm.
