Esports: Rocket League Earns Split In Doubleheader

10/18/21

SCRANTON, Pa. -- The Lackawanna College Esports Rocket League team earned one win in their two match-ups on Monday night.

Match #1: Stockton University 3 - 0 (6-0, 4-2, 3-2) Lackawanna College
The first match was a NACE clash with Stockton University. The Ospreys have quite the talented lineup, and the Falcons struggled to keep up with their pace of play. The frantic pressure from Stockton had them in front just 30 seconds into the first game. It was the first of six goals from Stockton, who shutout Lackawanna College in the first game, 6-0. Any hole that the Falcons had in their defense, Stockton found and took advantage right away. The Falcons spent much of the match on their back foot, desperately defending in front of goal. Juan Garcia (Gamertag: Jaepster), Keenan Lewis (Gamertag: Fesbot), and Caden Delaney (Gamertag: Bozi) all had some big saves that kept the score within two until the final few minutes.

Game two started much brighter for Lackawanna College, as Lewis scored just twelve seconds in to give the Falcons an early 1-0 advantage. Lewis almost made it two, but a save on the line from Stockton was followed up with a wild end-to-end carry that resulted in the equalizer with 4:14 to play. The Falcons would retreat and defend a little more for the next few minutes, but the Ospreys would find their second goal at the 2:12 mark to take a 2-1 lead. They'd add a third goal about 30 seconds later, but the Falcons would pull one back just a few seconds later when Lewis got his second goal of the match to make it 3-2 with 1:23 to play. The Falcons couldn't quite find the equalizer, and Stockton made them pay with a goal to make it 4-2 with 14 seconds remaining in game two, which would be how it ended to give Stockton a 2-0 lead.

The third game's first goal came just twenty seconds in for Stockton, putting the Falcons back on the defensive. Some more desperate Falcon defending kept it to a one-score game until the 3:14 mark, when the Ospreys would find their second goal. Lewis would get his third goal of the match for Lackawanna College with a laser of a bank shot that hit the sidewall and skittered into the net, making it 2-1 with two minutes to play. The Falcons defended well in the last two minutes, and even managed some pressure, which resulted in a pop-up pass from Lewis to Delaney, who hammered down to score his first goal of the evening and tie things up at two-apiece with 26 seconds remaining. The Falcons had overtime in their sights, but it wasn't meant to be, as Stockton found the game and match-winner with five seconds remaining, taking the game 3-2 and the match at 3-0.

Match #2: Lackawanna College 1 - 0 Crowder College (Forfeit)

Rocket League Game Result 10.18.21 Crowder College

The Falcons were set to regroup and compete against Crowder College, next, but Crowder couldn't field a squad for the match, and, as a result, the Falcons won by forfeit.
