Softball shuts out both Rochester CC and Elgin CC to go 2-0 on the day

Myrtle Beach, SC -  After suffering two 3-1 setbacks yesterday, the Lackawanna College Softball team looked to bounce back and earn their 5th and 6th wins of the season, as they faced both Rochester Community College and Elgin Community College.  The Lady Falcons were hoping their bats would come alive and score more than 2 total runs, like they did on Wednesday.  The pitching has been strong and with an offensive output, they knew they would take off business, as their Myrtle Beach trip begins to wrap-up.

Stephanie Kibbe got the start on the mound, for Lackawanna, and quickly dispatched of the first 3 Rochester batters.  In the bottom half of the 1st inning, Courtney Hoffman got things going offensively when she led off with a double to left field.  With Hoffman in scoring position, Gabrielle Vuocolo singled her in from 2nd base, for an early 1-0 lead.  Gianna Telesco followed that up with a line drive to center field, advancing Vuocolo to third base.  At the next at bat, Amaya Townsend stepped up to the plate and delivered a 1-out RBI single to left field, to give the Lady Falcons a 2-0 advantage.  They would add a third run in the inning, when Lexi Bruno drove in Gianna Telesco.  Kibbe shutout Rochester in their half of the 2nd, and then the Lackawanna offense began pour it on.  Even with her strong pitching performance, Kibbe joined in on the action, leading the bottom of the 2nd off with a single and then she eventually scored the 4th run of the game.  Courtney Hoffman made it 5-0, when she scored on a Rochester error.  Gianna Telesco singled to center field and Amaya Townsend drove her in, along with Mia Pawelski, when she smacked a triple to center field..  Lexi Bruno would round out the scoring when she drove in Townsend, to take a comfortable 8-0 lead.  That is all the scoring the Lady Falcons needed, as Stephanie Kibbe got the win and completed the shutout in a shortened 5 inning game.

In game 2 of the day, Mia Pawelski got the ball for Lackawanna, against Elgin Community College.  Both teams played solid defense in the first 2 innings.  However, the Lady Falcons would get things going in the bottom of the 3rd inning.  After Courtney Hoffman and Gabrielle Vuocolo reached base, Gianna Telesco came to the plate and tripled to center field, scoring both, to give Lackawanna a 2-0 lead.  Telesco eventually scored, to make it 3-0, when Morgan Mesaris drove her home with an RBI single.  In the bottom of the 4th inning, the Lady Falcons would put the game out of reach by scoring 6 unanswered runs.  The highlight of the inning was when Gabrielle Vuocolo hit an inside the park homerun, with the bases loaded, to push the lead to 7-0.  The lead would eventually increase to 9-0 when Morgan Mesaris hit a 2 RBI triple to left field.  Mia Pawelski earned her 3rd win of the season, completing a 5 inning shutout, while striking out 4 batters.

With the 2 wins, Lackawanna moves to 6-3 on the year.  Today, they were led by Courtney Hoffman, who went 4-6 and scored 4 runs and by Gianna Telesco who went 4-5, with 2 RBI's.  The Lady Falcons also had dominating performances by both pitchers, Stephanie Kibbe and Mia Pawelski.  They combined for shutouts in the two games and had 8 strikeouts between them.  The Lady Falcons are back in action tomorrow, as they begin to conclude their week long stay in Myrtle Beach.  They will look to head back to Scranton on a winning note.
