Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball cruises to 103-37 win over Bucks County CC in final regular season Region XIX game

Scranton, PA – Even though it was a Holiday for the College, the Lackawanna College Women's Basketball team had no time to relax, as they hosted their final Region XIX game of the season.  The Lady Falcons welcomed in Bucks County Community College to the Historic Student Union for a Monday night match-up.  The two teams last met on February 4th, where Lackawanna came away with a 98-39 victory.  They were determined to finish the Region XIX regular season off on the same note and go into the tournament as the #1 seed.

The first quarter saw Kyla Smith back in the lineup after being out with an ankle injury.  Ciaira Loyd, who was just named the EPAC Division II Player of the Year, took possession after the jump ball and hit a wide open 3-pointer, which was followed by a 3 by Briaunna McCullough, to give the Lady Flacons a 6-5 lead.  Loyd and McCullough would score again to stretch the Lackawanna lead to 10-5.  Off of a defensive rebound, McCullough found Kiana Williams under the basket for an easy FG.  On the next possession, Williams hit another jumper in the paint and the Lady Falcons took 14-5 lead.  After a missed 3, Keyanah Price put back an offensive rebound to give Lackawanna a 9-point advantage.  Miliesha Troche, came off the bench and picked up where she left off the last few games, connecting on a 3-pointer from the wing.  On the next possession, Briaunna McCullough slipped in under the basket for 2 offensive rebounds, which resulted in a 3-point opportunity.  She would convert on the free-throw to give the
Lady Falcons a 25-7 advantage.  Kyla Smith showed that she is healed from her injury, as she drained a 3-pointer, which she followed up with a fast break layup, off of a turnover.  As the buzzer sounded to end the quarter, Lackawanna found themselves with a 32-10 lead.

The Lady Falcons opened up the second quarter moving the ball offensively and found Briaunna McCullough for two straight inside points.  On the next possession, Kyla Smith found her stroke again from behind the 3-point line, to increase the Lady Falcons lead to 39-10.  On defense, Lackawanna switched to a zone and made Bucks County settle for a low percentage shot.  Keyanah Price was able to grab a defensive rebound and find Ciaira Loyd for the outlet pass, who found Kiana Williams down low for an easy 2.  Kyla Smith would then connect on her third 3-pointer of the game and the Lady Falcons would have their largest lead, 45-10.  After a steal, Ciaira Loyd started the fast break and found Allanah Bradford in the paint for 2 points.  A defensive steal by Alayah Cowan would turn into a score by Jamie Brann, which was followed by a Allanah defensive steal, where she took it coast to coast for an easy layup.  A Kayla Smith put back off an offensive rebound, gave the Lady Falcons a 56-19 lead and as the half ended, Lackawanna would go into the locker room leading 58-19.

Briaunna McCullough started the third quarter off with a steal and was fouled on the layup attempt.  She converted both free throws for the first 2 points of the half.  Ciaira Loyd then took the ball under the basket and found Kiana Williams for short jumper to extend the lead to 62-19.  The Lady Falcons defense continued to force turnovers, which resulted in transition points.  Kiana Williams also stepped up the pressure, keeping her position down low and not letting Bucks County get off any shots.  Lackawanna scored 7 straight transition points and would suddenly take a 69-20 advantage.  They also took advantage of the Bucks County defense and were able to find Keyanah Price and Kiana Williams down low for points.  After another series of fast break opportunities, the Lady Falcons saw themselves with a 54-point advantage, 77-23.

The fourth quarter would start the same way as the third, as Lackawanna found themselves with fast break after fast break opportunity.  Ciaira Loyd and Briaunna McCullough ran it to perfection and Bucks County was forced to take a quick timeout.  Coach Whittington would take her starters out and the bench took full advantage of their playing time.  Alayah Cowan immediately connected on a 3-pointer and Allanah Bradford would hit a jumper from the foul line.  On the next possession, Cowan took the ball down for a layup and Daeja Cromartie followed that up with a 3-pointer from the wing.  After a Jamie Brann layup, the Lady Falcons found themselves at the century mark for the 7th time this season, 100-32.  The game would end with Lackawanna defeating Bucks County 103-32.

With the win, the Lady Falcons move to 23-3 on the year and finish Region XIX play at 13-1, securing the #1 seed in the upcoming Region tournament.  They were led by Briaunna McCullough with 18 points and 9 rebounds, followed by Ciaira Loyd with 16 points and 8 assists.  Kiana Williams also had 15 points and 8 rebounds, while Kyla Smith and Keyanah Williams added ten points apiece.  Even though they are finished with regular season Region XIX play, Lackawanna still has 2 crucial games coming up this week.  On Wednesday they will travel to Maryland to face the #12 ranked team in the NJCAA, CCBC-Essex.  After Wednesday's game they will host Division III #1 ranked and undefeated Nassau Community College.  Wednesday's game against CCBC-Essex is scheduled to start at 6:00pm.
