Box Score Scranton, PA – With two games remaining on the season, the Lackawanna College Football Team was looking to improve on their 20 game unbeaten streak. On Saturday, the Falcons welcomed the New Jersey Warriors into Valor Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium for a 2:00pm kickoff. Coming into the game, Lackawanna had moved up to the #2 ranking in the NJCAA and the defense was coming off back to back games with 6 total INT's for a TD. Coach Duda and his staff had the Falcons focused and determined not to overlook the Warriors.
From the opening kickoff, Lackawanna's defensive showed its continued dominance by not allowing the Warriors to get any type of momentum on offense. An early three and out put the ball in QB
Matt Cavallaro hands. Running Back
Calvin Bell got things started with an 8-yard TD run to give Lackawanna an early 7-0 lead. The first quarter would see 2 more scores from the Falcons, with a 33-yard TD reception from
Matt Cavallaro to
Quentin Sanders and a 5-yard TD run by
Rashard Jackson to increase the lead to 21-0.
In the 2
nd quarter, QB
Matt Cavallaro and the offense would continue to use the offensive line to their advantage and move the ball at will against the Warriors. A little over 3 minutes into the 2
nd quarter, Cavallaro would take a QB keeper into the end zone to put the Falcons up 28-0. On the next series he would find Penn State commit
Norval Black for a 28-yard TD pass, while
Delvin Palmer would finish off the first half scoring with a 32-yard TD run.
In the 2
nd half, freshman QB Grant Johnson relieved Cavallaro and only had to throw the ball one time. The Falcons would rely on the running game with RB
Rashard Jackson and
Delvin Palmer each scoring their 2
nd TD's of the game. In between, Cam Ceccotti would connect on a 31 yard FG. This would be all the scoring Lackawanna would need as they increased their lead to 59-0. With the Falcons keeping the ball on the ground the in 2
nd half,
Calvin Bell would finish the game with 183 yards rushing and
Rashard Jackson finished with 139 yards rushing. While Lackawanna walked away with a 59-0 victory, that was not the end of the story.
Even though the offense was able to move the ball and score at will, the defense put up another outstanding performance. The Falcons continued their interception streak with both
TJ Robinson and Dewayne Grantham picking off the Warriors QB. The defense would also force 2 fumbles, recovering 1 of them. In addition, Keshaun Moore gave the Warriors offensive line fits and ended the game with 5 tackles, followed by
Jalen Butler with 4 tackles. The defense also recorded 4 sacks for a total loss of 21 yards. All in all, the defense played an outstanding game, recording their 3
rd shutout of the season.
With the win, the Falcons move to 9-0 on the season and have now won 21 games in a row. Next week, Lackawanna College plays their last game of the regular season when they host Georgia Military College on Sunday 11/10 at 1:00pm.
