SCRANTON, Pa. – Lackawanna College softball took advantage of 28 combined walks and held down Raritan Valley CC for a pair of wins in Region XIX Division II play on Thursday, 27-0 and 17-2, at Scranton HS softball field.

The Falcons (36-13, 17-5) got an excellent outing in game one from
Mia Scalese (Moscow, PA), who struck out a career-high 13 batters and allowed two hits in five innings of action. She also was a perfect 5-for-5 from the plate, driving in eight runs and scoring four of her own. Scalese had a bases-clearing triple in a nine-run first inning, a one-run double, and three RBI singles that drove in a combined four RBIs. Shortstop
Ayahna Fleisher (Duncannon, PA) was 3-for-5 with four runs and four RBIs, highlighted by a three-run inside-the-park homer in the first inning.

After Scalese struck out the side in the first inning, the Falcons scored nine runs on six hits in the first inning, highlighted by Scalese's triple, Fleisher's three-run homer, and RBI singles from
Mackenzie Adolfson (Throop, PA) and
Riley Knott (South Abington Twp., PA).

After Scalese struck out the side again in the top half of the second, she doubled home a run in the home half, while back-to-back sacrifice flies scored two more to put the Falcons up 12-0 after two.

Raritan had back-to-back singles in the third to break up the no-hitter, but Scalese got two strikeouts and a bunt out to strand the runners in the third. Lackawanna scored ten runs in the bottom frame, scoring on six hits and one error to get ahead by 22. The Falcons added five more in the fourth, on three hits and three errors from the Lions, allowing Scalese to get three-straight outs in the top of the fifth for the run-rule victory.

 In game two, Raritan (1-21, 1-21) took the early lead in the first inning, taking advantage of a Lackawanna error to score a pair of runs, but the Falcons scored seven in the first on six walks, and drew 19 walks in total to pull away.
Abigail Yenalevitch (Kingston, PA) pitched all five innings, allowing two runs on three hits, while striking out five batters for her sixth win of the season.
Tori May (New Castle, PA) was 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, hitting the only double for Lackawanna in the game, while
Kyleah Edwards (Taylor, PA) was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, and Yenalevitch drew two walks and had four RBIs.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the first, Lackawanna got on the board with an RBI single to center from May, and then tied the game two batters later on a single to third from Edwards. A bases-loaded hit batter forced in the third run for the Falcons, and Yenalevitch delivered a two-run single to right to make it 5-2, Falcons. Another bases-loaded hit batter, followed by a bases-loaded walk, pushed the Falcons ahead 7-2 after the first inning.

In the home half of the second, the Falcons got a bases-loaded walk and an RBI ground out to make it 9-2. A two-run single from
Mekenzie Dineen (Wilmington, DE) and a May double made it 12-2 after two.

The Falcons added another run in the bottom of the third, on a bases-loaded walk, then added four more in the fourth, coming on a two-run single from
Elizabeth DePrimo (Dunmore, PA), a bases-loaded hit batter, and then a bases-loaded walk.

Ahead 17-2, Lackawanna secured the win when Yenalevitch retired the side in order, giving the Falcons another region doubleheader sweep and pushing their season wins total to 36, tying a program-record for most wins in one season with the 2001 squad that went 36-8 and made the NJCAA Softball National Tournament.

Lackawanna College is back to action on Friday, April 24
th, with one final Region XIX Division II doubleheader, hosting Mercer County CC at Scranton HS softball field. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00pm ET.
