SUPPLY, NC – Lackawanna College baseball struggled to keep up for a second-straight day in the Tar Heel State, dropping a pair of contests at #20 Brunswick CC on Sunday afternoon. The Dolphins limited the Falcons to just three hits in a 7-1 win in game one, then took game two in just five innings with a 15-5 triumph over Lackawanna.
Â
The Falcons (0-3) had just three hits and only two walks in game one, while striking out eleven times. After the Dolphins (3-0) took an initial 7-0 lead after three innings, the Falcons scored in the top of the fourth through an RBI single from
Jake Verbitsky (Media, PA), but they'd squander a chance to capitalize, getting three solid innings of relief from the pen, which gave up just three hits and had three strikeouts after starter
Josiah Williams (Emmaus, PA) was tagged four seven runs, four earned, on two hits and three walks in three innings.
Â
In game two, the Lackawanna bats finally started to warm up, but Brunswick scored runs in all five innings played to set a pace the Falcons couldn't keep up with.
Hunter Austra (Larksville, PA) hit the first home run of the season for the Falcons, a solo shot that went opposite field to the right side, while
Tristan Kuijer (Haarlem, NED) added a double. Austra had two RBIs, while Verbitsky added a pair of RBIs, and
Jimmy Ernst (Franklin Square, NY) was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Lackawanna struck out seven times and drew just one walk. Starter
Billy O'Neill (Holland, PA) took the loss, giving up four runs, three earned, on two hits and three walks.
Â
Lackawanna trailed game two by a 10-5 margin heading into the bottom of the fifth, but Brunswick scored the five runs it needed to end the game early thanks to five walks and a hit batter from Lackawanna College.
Â
The Falcons will look to shake off the dust and get back to work next Saturday, February 14
th, when they're scheduled to take on East Georgia State College in Florence, South Carolina. First game of the doubleheader with the Bobcats is set for a 12:00pm ET start at Florence Darlington Tech.
