Baseball Earned Its Third EPAC Nomination, While Softball Picked Up Its Second Of The Year

SCRANTON, Pa. -- Lackawanna College baseball picked up its third Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (EPAC) Player of the Week nomination this season, as sophomore student-athlete Jake Kelleher (Exeter, PA) was named as the Player of the Week in the EPAC this past week. Joining Jake is Lackawanna College softball student-athlete Emmalee Mowery (Mechanicsburg, PA), now a two-time selection for Lackawanna College softball, according to a release from the conference on Monday morning.

The Falcons swept the baseball and softball awards, while Delaware County CC got the track and field nomination for sprinter Fred "Tre" McRay.

Jake is currently in the middle of a 15-game hitting streak, and he was hot last week, going 11-for-17 (.647) in four games. Kelleher drove in seven RBIs, scored six runs, and had two doubles and one homer. Jake had a 1.641 OPS in four games, which included a.700 OBP and a .941 SLG for the week. Jake had multiple hits in all four games, and has now had two or more hits in five straight contests. He was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, including a home run, in the win against Morris on Friday, then went a combined 6-for-9 with four runs and five RBIs in the doubleheader against the Titans on Saturday. Jake's batting average has risen 76 points since the start of April. He leads the Falcons with a .449 batting average in 33 games this season, is first on the team in runs (40), and second in total hits (48). His six homers are tied for second on the team this season, and he is one of seven players with 20 or more RBIs (26).

Emmalee was scorching at the dish last week, going a combined 17-for-26 (.654) in eight games, with 16 runs, 15 RBIs, three doubles, and her first career homer, an inside-the-parker against Raritan. Mowery had a 1.642 OPS through eight games, highlighted by a.757 OBP and a .885 SLG. She drew seven walks and stole a pair of bases. Her average climbed 57 points over the week. Emmalee went a combined 8-for-10 with nine RBIs and eight runs against Raritan Valley on Thursday, then stayed hot with a perfect 7-for-7 showing at Onondaga, scoring four runs and driving in six RBIs. Mowery hit a double in game two against Onondaga that was her 100th hit in her Lackawanna College career. Emmalee had one hit in two games against Del Tech, but her one hit was the one that started the rally in the seventh to eventually win game two. Mowery leads Lackawanna in several categories this season, including batting average (.415), total hits (56), OPS (1.065), runs (45), RBIs (36), doubles (12), extra-base hits (15), walks (27), slugging (.556), and OBP (.509).

Softball returns to action today, Tuesday, April 22nd, with a road doubleheader at Sussex County CC in Region XIX Division II play. First pitch is set for 3:30pm ET. Baseball, meanwhile, gets back to action on Thursday, April 24th, with a single nine-inning contest on the road at NJCAA Division III #1 RCSJ Gloucester. First pitch is set for 3:00pm ET in Sewell, NJ.
