SB: Lackawanna Drops Hazleton In Doubleheader Sweep

The Falcons Were Dominant On The Diamond Tuesday, Putting Up A Combined 27 Runs And Never Letting Up Against PSU Hazleton

3/25/25

DRUMS, Pa. – Lackawanna College softball swept a pair of games from Penn State Hazleton on a chilly Tuesday afternoon, winning 12-2 in six innings and 15-0 in five innings at Freedom Park in Drums.

The Falcons (11-13) scored a combined 27 runs on 20 hits, with six extra-base knocks, while the Nittany Lions (0-6) committed eight combined errors and managed just six hits in two games.

In game one, the Falcons scored six runs through the first two innings to build the early advantage, then continued to pile on, scoring four runs in the sixth to snag a 12-1 run and force Hazleton to have to score in the bottom frame to avoid the run rule. The Lions scored one run on an error, but the game ended before they could get anything else going.

Abigail Yenalevitch (Kingston, PA) picked up her first win of the season, going six innings and giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits. She struck out five in the win. Tori May (New Castle, PA) had a pair of hits and two RBIs, while seven other Falcons recorded at least a hit. Emmalee Mowery (Mechanicsburg, PA) was 1-for-3 with three runs and an RBI, and both Jillian Heimberger (Unionville, PA) and Laniah Tasker (Chambersburg, PA) each scored a pair of runs. Brianna Dinice (Terryville, CT) hit a two-run double in the sixth, while Mekenzie Dineen (Wilmington, DE) hit a solo homer, her first career big fly as a Falcon, in the fifth inning.

Game two saw Lackawanna College put up a 12-spot in the second inning, relying on a solid outing in the circle from Dineen to hold down their opponents from Hazleton. The Falcons scored the first three runs of the game on a walk, a hit batter, and a wild pitch in the top of the second, then went on a tear to add nine more runs in the inning. Highlights at the plate on the day include RBI triples from Heimberger and Isabella Rodriguez (Lancaster, PA), as well as RBI hits from Yenalevitch, May, and Kaislyn Currie (Gibbons, AB).

Dineen picked up her first win of the season, pitching a scoreless five innings, striking out five and allowing just two hits. Yenalevitch was 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs, while Lindsey Tasker (Clarks Summit, PA) went 2-for-4 with two runs and Kizbelth Ortiz (New Britain, CT) collected a pair of hits and scored two runs. Rodriguez had four RBIs, and Dineen scored two runs, drove in two more, and drew a walk.

Lackawanna College will look to keep up its winning ways with a tough doubleheader next on Thursday, March 27th, as the Falcons are scheduled to take on the NJCAA DIII #5 team in the nation, Brookdale CC, for a doubleheader in a region cross-divisional doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30pm ET in Lincroft, NJ.
