SB: Potomac Downs Lackawanna In Doubleheader Sweep

The Falcons Couldn't Offer Much Resistance To The Power On Display From Potomac College

3/15/25

KEYSER, WV – It was easy work for WVU Potomac State College on Saturday against Lackawanna College softball, as the Catamounts overwhelmed the Falcons in a pair of runaway victories on Saturday afternoon in West Viriginia. Potomac hit three home runs and won game one in five innings, 12-1, then hit another homer and won game two in five, 8-0.

The Catamounts (11-3) scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning of game one to take the lead for good, using a leadoff walk and turning that into a run on an RBI single, then getting back-to-back walks to load the bases and then another walk to force in the second run. A passed ball made it 3-0, and then a wild pitch scored the fourth run of the inning to put the Falcons in a 4-0 hole after two.

Lackawanna (4-8) got a base runner on a walk for the third straight inning in the third, but the Falcons were caught stealing, and the Catamounts used that momentum to score two more in the bottom frame, getting a lead off homer to center to make it 5-0, then singling to the left side to score another run and make it 6-0 after three innings.

Laniah Tasker (Chambersburg, PA) got the Falcons going with a two-out RBI single to right, scoring Kaislyn Currie (Gibbons, AB) to get Lackawanna on the board, but Potomac blew up in the bottom of the fourth, scoring six more runs, with the highlights coming on a pair of two-run homers. After the dust settled, Lackawanna was down 12-1 heading into the fifth, where Potomac made quick work and retired the side in order to take game one.

Tasker's hit was the only hit for the Falcons in game one. Lackawanna drew four walks on the day. Brianna Dinice (Terryville, CT) was tagged with the loss, giving up six runs, four earned, on three hits, walking seven and striking out only two in two innings.

In game two, Potomac opened the game with two runs in the bottom of the first, then scored in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to end things quickly against Lackawanna.

For Lackawanna, Lindsey Tasker (Clarks Summit, PA) had a hit and a walk, while Mia Scalese (Moscow, PA) collected a hit, as did Jillian Heimberger (Unionville, PA). Emmalee Mowery (Mechanicsburg, PA) had a pair of walks. Scalese took the loss, giving up eight runs on eight hits in four innings of action.

The Falcons had something cooking in the first inning, with Mowery drawing a leadoff walk and Heimberger singling to right to put two on with nobody out, but Lackawanna made three straight outs from there, and Potomac seized the momentum. A leadoff walk was followed with an RBI double to left that made it 1-0, Catamounts. Later, with two outs and two on, a single scored the second run of the game, before Scalese got a strikeout to get out of trouble.

Tasker reached second after a walk and a stolen base in the second, but the Falcons couldn't convert her into runs. Scalese bounced back for three straight outs in the second to keep the Falcons within striking distance heading into the third.

Mowery reached on another walk and went to second on a sac bunt. A hit batter with two outs put two on, but a liner to second ended the top of the third early, with the Falcons still down 2-0.

Potomac added a third run on a two-out solo homer, their fourth combined homer of the day, running the Catamounts up to a 3-0 lead.

They'd add three more in the fourth, using back-to-back doubles to score one run, then an RBI single to score another, before using a sac bunt to score the sixth run and make it 6-0 entering the fifth.

After Lackawanna couldn't score in the top half, Potomac ended it in the bottom frame, taking advantage of a hit batter, then an error, to put two on, and then a single to load the bases with nobody out, setting up the walk off on a two-run single to end the game early via run rule.

The Falcons will try to regroup on Tuesday, March 18th, with a pair of road contests at County College of Morris in Randolph, NJ. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3:30pm ET.
