The Falcons Had A First-Team Selection In Both Men's And Women's Basketball This Year

SCRANTON, Pa. – Lackawanna College men's and women's basketball were each represented on the 2024-2025 All-Region XIX Division II squads announced on Thursday afternoon, with one player from each squad snagging a first-team nomination.
 
On the women's side, Salote Franklin (Philadelphia, PA) earned a first-team nod in her first year of action. Franklin led the Falcons in scoring throughout the year, averaging 16.7 points per game and 12.7 rebounds per contest entering the region playoffs yesterday. Her scoring average was good for third in Division II, and eighth in the region overall. Franklin led Division II in rebounding all season. Entering Thursday, she shot 46.2% from the floor and was a 66.7% free throw shooter. Franklin led the Falcons both in attempts (114) and makes (76). She has also hit 17 three-pointers this season. In the regular season, Franklin had 54 steals, tied for first on the team, and led the Falcons with 41 blocks this year. Salote was also tied for third on the team with 59 assists in the regular season. She had 30 points in the season-opening victory against CCBC Catonsville back on November 1st, shooting 13-for-21 from the floor, while pulling down eight rebounds. She set a season-high for rebounds with 23 boards and 28 points in the win against Salem back on December 14th. Salote was 15-for-16 from the free throw line in the contest, going 8-for-8 in the fourth quarter alone, to help secure the win. Salote scored double-figures in 22 games during the regular season and had 16 double-doubles. She set a season-high with eight assists in the win against Essex on November 19th, where she also had 14 points and ten boards. Franklin set her season-high in steals in the win against Orange on January 23rd, securing seven steals, while also putting up 22 points and 20 rebounds. After Thursday's loss to Harcum, Franklin ended her year with 414 points (16.6 ppg), 314 rebounds (12.6 rpg), 60 assists, 55 steals, and 42 blocks. She shot 45.8% on the season and started all 25 games for the Falcons this year.
 
Evan Laybourn-Boddie (Scranton, PA) was a first-team selection on the men's side. The first-year guard scored 503 points in the regular season, averaging 17.9 points per game, fifth in Division II and 14th in the entire region. He shot 39% from the floor and 71.7% from the free throw line during the regular season. Laybourn-Boddie led the team with 74 three-point makes, second in all Region XIX. He dished out 116 assists (4.1 per game, fourth in Region XIX DII) and led the Falcons with 68 steals (2.4 per game) entering Thursday's playoff contest. Laybourn-Boddie had scored double-digits 23 times in 28 games in the regular season, putting up a season-and-career-high 35 points on February 4th against Mercer County CC. Against the Vikings, ELB made a season-high 12 shots, including eight three-pointers, while dishing out seven assists in the victory. Laybourn-Boddie scored 23 points and set a season-high with eight rebounds, along with five assists in the win against Sussex back on December 12th. Evan set his season-high with eleven assists and 17 points in the win against Rockland on January 11th, going 11-for-16 from the free throw line. He matched that output from the line against Cecil on January 21st, scoring 25 points and going 11-for-14 on the charity stripe in the loss. In Thursday's win against Middlesex, Evan scored 30 points and was red-hot from the floor, hitting eight three-pointers, which includes six in the second half of the 78-65 win for the Falcons.
 
Women's basketball has completed its 2024-2025 campaign, while men's basketball has made the Region XIX Division II Championship game, being held on Saturday, March 1st, at 3:00pm ET inside the historic Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium.
