MBB: Hazleton Rally Falls Short As Lackawanna Wins Home Opener

The Falcons Had Four Players In Double-Figures And Shot 46.7% From The Floor In Their Home-Opening Victory

11/6/25

SCRANTON, Pa. – Four players scored in double-figures and Lackawanna College men's basketball shot 47% from the floor in an 85-80 non-league win against Penn State Hazleton on Thursday evening inside the historic Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium.

The Falcons (2-1) led by as many as 15 points in the second half, but the Nittany Lions (1-1) closed to within one point with under four minutes to play at 75-74. Lackawanna wouldn't back down, however, going to big man Jaksa Pejovic (Podgorica, Montenegro) twice in the blocks to stay in front. Pejovic spun on the right block and banked home a shot through contact to draw the foul and put the Falcons up 78-74, then spun into the lane on the next possession to score again, this time making it 80-76, Falcons, with under three to play.

Hazleton couldn't get closer than three with 90 seconds to play, but a Noah McIntosh (Philadelphia, PA) mid-range jumper with the shot clock winding down pushed the lead to five, and Lackawanna forced a shot clock violation on the next possession to start to put the game on ice with 50 seconds remaining.

Pejovic led the way with a game-high 20 points on 5-for-11 shooting, hitting 9-for-11 from the free throw line. He also led the team with four steals. Matthew Nora (Houston, TX) finished with 13 points and seven rebounds off the bench, while Jahsan Simms (Hillside, NJ) scored 12 and McIntosh had ten points and five rebounds. The Falcons shot a solid 46.7% from the floor, hitting eleven three-pointers and going 18-for-28 from the free throw line for the game.

Lackawanna College will be back in action on the road this coming weekend, taking on Jefferson Community College in their first game at the Lazer Tip-Off Classic at SUNY Onondaga in Syracuse, NY. Tip is set for 3:00pm ET at the SRC Arena and Events Center.
