SCRANTON, Pa. -- For the second time this scholastic year, Lackawanna College Athletics has swept the Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards. This time, it was the spring sports' turn to shine.Â
The EPAC announced the selections on Monday morning, and Lackawanna College baseball and softball each earned nods as the EPAC Players of the Week in their respective sports, as
Louis Kegerreis (Redshirt First Year; Murrysville, PA) and
Morgan McVicar (First Year; Blakely, PA) were both chosen.
Kegerreis was 7-for-14 in four games last week for the Falcons, hitting .500 and driving in ten runs. Kegerreis had two homeruns, one double, two walks, and a sac fly, earning a 1.529 OPS. Kegerreis had big hits in big spots, inlcuding a two-run homerun that started the game against PSU York last Thursday, and a three-run jack late in the game against Minnesota North College Itasca on Friday, helping the Falcons secure a 12-5 game one victory. In that game, Kegerreis was 2-for-4 with five RBI. In game two, despite the Falcons falling, Kegerreis had another good game, going 2-for-4 with three more RBI. On the early season, Kegerreis has a .367 batting average, with a 1.277 OPS this year, tops on the team. He's slugging at .833 this year, and leads the Falcons in homeruns (4) and RBI (12), with six total extra base hits this season. His eleven total hits are third on the team, and his seven runs are tied for first on the squad.Â
McVicar had an excellent week for Lackawanna College softball, going 10-for-25 (.400) in eight games, driving in ten runs, while scoring six of her own. McVicar doubled five times, and drew two walks, helping herself to a 1.029 OPS through the week. All of this was made more impressive by the fact that she had just one hit through her first six games of the year. McVicar was 3-for-3 against Bay College, where she scored two runs, drove in four, and had two doubles in a come-from-behind victory for Lackawanna College. Against Southeastern CC (NC) the day before, she was 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI, hitting two more doubles. McVicar ended that game with a walk-off double in fifth inning, bringing two runs home to end the game early via run rule. McVicar is hitting .306 this season, third on the team, and has eleven total hits, also third on the squad this season. She has eleven RBI this year, tied for the team-lead, and has hit five doubles this year, also tied for the team-lead this season.Â
The next game for Lackawanna College baseball is set for Wednesday, March 13th, when the Falcons travel to Kingsborough CC in New York for a single, nine-inning contest, with first pitch scheduled for 2:30pm ET. Meanwhile, the softball squad gets back to action on Saturday, March 17th, when they travel to Wye Mills, MD for a doubleheader at Chesapeake College. First pitch is at 12:00pm ET.Â
