SCRANTON, Pa. -- Congratulations to first year football student-athlete
QUOY RAINEY (Vorhees, NJ), the tenth Lackawanna College Athlete of the Week for the 2023-2024 scholastic year!
Quoy joined the football team as one of the many offensive linemen, but switched positions late last month to defensive tackle to help fill a need for the Falcons on defense. After taking a game to get used to it, Rainey threw his considerable size around against Monroe this past Saturday, and really made his minutes count. One of his biggest plays came late in the fourth quarter, after Monroe had just scored to tie the game at 27, and was lining up to kick the extra point to take the lead. Rainey broke through the line and swatted the kick down to block the PAT and keep the game tied, giving Lackawanna a spark of life late in the game. Then, in overtime, he had a big TFL that kept Monroe out of the end zone and forced the Mustangs to kick a field goal to keep the game going. Then, finally, in the second overtime, Rainey had another big stop, this time on the two-point conversion from Monroe, to keep the margin at just six points, and set the stage for the Falcons to score and win with a two-point conversion.
Rainey is a first year student-athlete at Lackawanna. He will be a guest on a future episode of Falcons Corner, which airs every week on the
Lackawanna College Athletics YouTube.
