7/16/21
Scranton, PA – The Lackawanna College Athletic Department has confirmed the 2021 fall schedule for the Lackawanna Football team, highlighted by multiple neutral site contests and an end-of-the-season match-up with one of the top programs in the country.
The Falcons missed the 2020 fall football season last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and played an abbreviated 2021 spring football season, where they went 1-1. In their last fall football season, 2019, Lackawanna College went undefeated through the regular season for the 2
nd straight year, and were selected to play in the NJCAA National Championship Game at Pittsburg State in Kansas. The Falcons fell to Mississippi Gulf Coast in the championship game, finishing 2
nd in the country.
The 2021 fall schedule begins quickly in late August. After a pair of scrimmages against Montclair State (8/21) and Albright College (8/26), the Falcons kick the regular season off on Sunday September 5th at 12pm against Iowa Central CC in Fort Wayne, IN. The Tritons went 6-3 in the 2021 spring football season, including their third straight appearance and win in the Graphic Edge Bowl.
That is the first of four straight games that the Falcons will be away from home, highlighted by trips to Greensboro, NC on Saturday September 18
th to play ASA-Miami, and to West Point on Monday September 27
th to play the Army JV squad.
The home opener for the Falcons won't come until Saturday October 2
nd, when they host the McDougle Technical Institute. The Bison, in just their second year of existence, are playing JUCO football for the first time. In 2019, they won the National Prep School Championship, their inaugural season.
The match-up with the M.T.I. will be the first of four home games in five weekends in October for Lackawanna College, with a trip to a neutral-site matchup with Hocking College on Saturday October 23
rd as the lone game away from Memorial Stadium.
The Falcons wrap up the regular season with a pair of road-games in November, after a bye week on the first weekend. A trip to Nassau on Saturday November 13
th is followed up by the season-finale: A road game against Georgia Military College on Saturday November 20
th in Miledgeville, GA. GMC is a powerhouse in the NJCAA with a pedigree and tradition for sending players to the next level. The Falcons and Bulldogs met in 2019 in Scranton, and the Falcons won 37-30, ending GMC's season, and propelling Lackawanna College to the NJCAA National Championship Game.
The times and locations of these games are subject to change. Check back to lackawanafalcons.com for updates.
