SB: Major Game Two Comeback Fuels Lackawanna Doubleheader Sweep Against Catonsville

After A Strong Game One Win, Lackawanna College Softball Rallied From A Big Deficit To Down The Cardinals On The Road

3/10/26

CATONSVILLE, Md. – Contributions up-and-down the lineup helped Lackawanna College softball win a pair of impressive games on the road against CCBC Catonsville on Tuesday afternoon, as the Falcons took wins of 14-6 and 12-11 against the Cardinals in non-region action in Maryland.

The Falcons (6-3) scored 26 combined runs and had seven extra-base hits combined, but neither game was truly in hand until the later stages, especially game two.

Catonsville (3-7) led 9-2 heading into the fifth inning, holding the Lackawanna offense in check, but the Falcons exploded in the fifth inning for seven runs to completely flip the game on its head. Madison Pirolli (Southampton, PA) and Mekenzie Dineen (Wilmington, DE) opened the inning with back-to-back singles, and Ayahna Fleisher (Duncannon, PA) delivered a double to score the pair and get the Falcons offense up-and-running. A walk, followed by an RBI single from Laniah Tasker (Chambersburg, PA) that made it 9-5. A fielder's choice was the first out, but Gracie Sokol (Belle Vernon, PA) and Kyleah Edwards (Taylor, PA) hit back-to-back RBI singles to cut the deficit to 9-7. Later, with runners on second and third and two down, Pirolli stepped up and laced a double to score the pair and tie the game at 9-9, chasing the pitcher from the contest and giving Lackawanna new life.

After Mekenzie Revere (Ansonia, CT) danced out of trouble to strand a pair in the bottom frame, the Falcons took the lead in the top of the sixth. Fleisher singled to lead the inning off, got to second on a wild pitch, made it to third, and then scored on an error on the infield, making it 10-9 and completing the comeback for Lackawanna. Later, Riley Knott (Clarks Summit, PA) singled in Tasker to make it 11-9, Falcons, heading into the bottom of the sixth.

A passed ball let the Cardinals get within 11-10, but Revere again squeezed out of trouble with a ground out to first. Fleisher gave the Falcons another run for cushion, doubling with two outs in the top of the seventh to makeit 12-10, Falcons.

In the bottom of the seventh, Revere ran into some trouble one more time. She managed to get to two outs with a runner on third, but a single scored that runner and got Catonsville within one. Another single put two on, and the Falcons made a switch to put Fleisher in the circle to pitch for the one-out save. It turned out to be the right choice, with Catonsville lifting a fly ball to center field. It almost landed, but Mia Scalese (Moscow, PA) charged in from center and made a diving catch to secure the win for the Falcons in game two.

In game one, the Falcons were down 6-4 heading into the third, but Pirolli and Dineen combined for a pair of RBI hits to tie things up at 6-6 after 2.5 innings. From there, Fleisher settled the opposition down, holding Catonsville to just two hits over the final five innings, while the Lackawanna offense steadily built an insurmountable lead from the fifth inning on for the win.

Lackawanna took the lead for good in the fifth when Fleisher hit a single with the bases loaded, making it 7-6, Falcons. A fielder's choice pushed it to a two-run lead, then Knott singled in another run, and Sokol delivered the big blow: A bases-clearing double to break things wide open at 12-6.

Dineen and Mackenzie Adolfson (Throop, PA) added RBI singles in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively, pushing the Lackawanna advantage to 14-6, which Fleisher made stand up with a 1-2-3 inning.

Fleisher finished game one with seven innings, giving up six runs on eight hits and striking out seven for her third win of the year. Fleisher had two runs and an RBI, while Adolfson was 4-for-5 with three runs scored, and Tasker went 3-for-4 with a run scored. Knott had two runs and two RBIs, while Sokol had four RBIs. Dineen went 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

In game two, Fleisher was 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs and three RBIs. Pirolli went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs, and two RBIs. Tasker, Knott, and Sokol all had two runs scored. Revere picked up the win, giving up seven runs on four hits in 3.2 innings of relief. She struck out three, but walked nine. Fleisher earned her second save of the season, getting just the one out.

Lackawanna College has won five of its last six games, and the Falcons will be back to action on Sunday, March 15th, when they take on Madison College and Mohawk Valley CC in a pair of games at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. First pitch against Madison will be at 9:00am ET.
