(Cranford, NJ) – Lackawanna College Women's Basketball took to the road to square off against nationally ranked #8 Union County College on Wednesday night. The Lady Falcons claimed a 71-69 conference win and boosted their record to 20-4 (12-3). Lackawanna defeated the Region XIX leading Union CC 60-50 earlier this season as well.
Shaylah Green and Kyla Smith started the 1st quarter off with a pair of three pointers each. Briaunna McCullough and Ciaira Loyd both scored 4 points as well, marching into a 17-13 Lackawanna lead at the end of the 1st quarter. Similarly, the 2nd quarter saw Briaunna McCullough and Shaylah Green hit a shot from outside the arc as Jasmine Lewis scored 4 points. Union CC would battle back, hitting 8 free throws and both teams would go into overtime tied 31-31.
Briaunna McCullough would find the bucket from three-point land twice in the 3rd quarter as Lackawanna pushed through adversity. Headed into the 4th quarter with a small 51-48 lead for Lackawanna, the Lady Falcons McCullough stepped up again scoring 9 points. The team finished with 18 assists and 9 steals which proved to be the deciding factor as the Lady Falcons edged out Union CC to record a 71-69 win.
