Myrtle Beach, SC: Friday afternoon, the Lackawanna College Baseball team rebounded from a loss earlier in the day, to beat Elgin Community College 7-1 to gain a split of their Friday games played at the Cal Ripken Experience. In the first game of the day, the Falcons fell to Kankekee Community College 7-3.
Game 1: A two run by Lackawanna's Ian Diaz in the second inning gave the Falcon's a two-run lead in the third inning. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Kanakekee scored six runs to retake the lead, which they held for the remainder of the seven inning contest. The loss was especially hard on Grant Powell, Lackawanna's starter, who held Kankekee scoreless on one hit over the first four innings of the contest, only to tire in the 6-run fifth.
Besides Diaz's homer, Lackawanna hitters contributed 10 base hits in the loss. Ryan Cole led the group with a single, double and an RBI in three at bats. Three other Falcons had two hits in three trips to the plate. They were Zac Granger, John Crane and DJ Barry-Staszak. Thylar Summarell had the Falcons' only other hit, a single in the third.
Game 2: Lackawanna beat Elgin Community College 7-1 in the second game relying on the strong pitching of Nathan McClain and an extra base hitting performance by Falcon batters.
McClain held Elgin to a solidary run on two hits over seven innings. He also struck out seven.
At the plate the Falcons had only five hits. However, four of those hits were for extra bases. The most impressive being a three- run home run by Colin Weinert in the six run second. The remaining extra base hits were doubles by Zac Granger, Thylar Summarell and Ryan Cole. Each of those two-base hits also game in the second and contributed the remaining three runs scored in that inning. Lackawanna's only other hit was a single by Carlos Morales in the sixth.
The Falcons' will finish their spring trip tomorrow when they play Elgin at 10:00 AM.
