(Myrtle Beach, SC) – The Lackawanna Falcons played 2 games at the Cal Ripken Experience on Monday, losing to Penn State Allegheny 7-4 and defeating York College JV 10-2. Lackawanna's record now sits at 2-3. The Falcons were originally slated to play Olney Central College, but the game was rained out in the morning.
Lackawanna and Penn State Allegheny played 3 scoreless innings before the Lions scored first. Penn State struck as they capitalized on 4 Falcon errors in the top of the 4th to give the Lions a 4-0 lead. Lackawanna's Marco Morales hit two runs home with a triple in the bottom of the 6th to give the Falcons their first runs of the day. PSU responded by laying down 3 runs on 3 hits in the top of the 7th. Lackawanna made an attempt to come back in the bottom of the 7th; Zac Granger hit a 2 RBI single to close the gap to 7-4. Unfortunately, that's all the runs they could muster. Penn State Allegheny won 7-4.
Starting off the game against York College JV, Lackawanna's Ryan Cole got on base off of a fielding error. From there Zac Granger drew a walk, setting up Thylar Summarell to hit an RBI single into the gap. After scoring another run on a fielder's choice, Lackawanna lead 2-0. Pitching for the Falcons was Nate Kitchell; he stranded several runners but gave up 1 run in the bottom of the 4th. By that time, the Falcons already increased their lead to 7-1. Lackawanna would tag on a few runs towards the end of the game to win this one, 10-2.
The Falcons will continue playing games at the Cal Ripken Experience tomorrow (March 5th) as they will square off against College of DuPage at 10am and Kankakee CC at 12:30pm.
