Schnecksville, PA – Wednesday night the Lackawanna College volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to the Cougars of Lehigh Carbon Community College. The Lady Falcons dropped their first two sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-17, before losing a heart breaker in the third set, 26-24.
Tonight's top performers were Ciara Candelaria, Brianna Izen, Nicola McKetty-Ekuban and Abigail Rodriquez, Candelaria had 5 kills, 5 assists, 4 digs, 2 serve points and an ace; Izen was credited with 3 kills, 3 assists, 2 digs, 3 blocks and 2 aces; McKetty-Ekuban recorded 3 kills, 2 blocks, 6 service points and 4 aces; while Rodriquez contributed a kill, an assist, 7 digs, 8 service points and 3 aces.
In discussing his team's efforts, head coach, Jim Hummer said, "We made a lot of unforced errors tonight and that was the difference in the scores. In the third set, we made less mistakes and it showed on the scoreboard (26-24); but consistency was lacking. This is something we are going to have to improve upon moving forward".
Lackawanna retakes the floor on Saturday when they host Harcum College and Northampton Community College in a tri-match at the Lackawanna College Student Union. The first game of Saturday's contests is scheduled for a 12:00 PM start.
The loss leaves the Falcons with an Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference record of no wins and four losses. Saturday's contest against Harcum will have a double effect on the Lackawanna record since it is both an EPAC contest and a Region XIX Division II game.
