The Lady Falcons Volleyball Team loses twice in EPAC Tri-Match

Scranton, PA: The Lackawanna College volleyball team was defeated twice in a Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference tri-match held Saturday afternoon at the Gym at Lackawanna's Student Union. The Lady Falcons lost to Bucks County Community College and Harrisburg Area Community College by identical 3-0 scores. Bucks County outscored the Falcons with set scores of 25-20, 25-16 and 25-19 Harrisburg Area beat Lackawanna by scores of 25-13, 25-13 and 25-12.

In the opening match against Bucks County, the Falcons top performers were Ciara Candelaria, Brianna Izen and Abigail Rodriguez. Candelaria recorded 4 kills, 6 assists, 8 digs 6 service points and 2 aces; Izen had 2 kills, 2 assists, 5 digs, a block, 4 service points and a ace; while, Rodriguez was credited with an assist, 10 digs and 2 service points.

In discussing the opener, head coach, James Hummer, said, "we started great and went point for point with them. However, we gave up runs of 4 or 5 points late in the sets. Learning how to finish off sets comes with experience and we are getting better in that aspect of the game.

Against Harrisburg, Lackawanna's top performers were again Candelaria, Izen and Rodriguez. In this match, Candelaria recorded a kill, 7 assists and 3 digs; Izen had 5 kills, an assist, 6 digs, 2 blocks, 3 service points and an ace; while, Rodriguez had 5 digs and 5 service points.

In referencing the Harrisburg Area contest, Coach Hummer commented that "We played a bit inconsistent. At times we look very good; but playing like that on every point is something we need to work on."

Lackawanna next plays on Thursday, when they travel to Schnecksville, Pennsylvania for EPAC match versus Lehigh Carbon Community College. Game time for that contest is 6: 00 PM.
