(Scranton, PA) – Lackawanna head women's soccer coach Rudy Roediger announced on Thursday the signing of 12 student-athletes to Letters of Intent. The dozen-player group boasts five youth and/or senior national team capped players and an NCAA transfer. In all, the group hails from four countries and two states, including six Keystone State natives.
"I've been looking forward to announcing this first part of our 2019 class and I am very excited about the other players we will be announcing in the future to conclude this first class," Roediger said. "Here we have a group that will have an immediate impact on this program, and I know each one of the student-athletes who are joining us are committed to developing the New Age and New Era of Lackawanna College Women's Soccer. They are committed to our standard of excellence on and off the pitch and building a tradition of developing championship student-athletes."
The veteran head coach secured half of the class from the Pennsylvania, and also went worldwide for the initial part of his transformational 2019 class which includes one goalkeeper, four defenders, five midfielders and two forwards.
The complete alphabetically listed, biographical information on Roediger's 2019 incoming class can be found below:
Defender | 5-foot-7 | Danielsville, Pa. | Northampton HS
Roediger on Apsley: "Rachel (Aplsey) is a player with unique skills that was sought-after by several other schools. She visited during our first Official Visit Day in January and confirmed everything we had identified previously. She can punish teams with her passing range from the back, including the ability to break the lines to find attacking players. She loves a challenge and really brings a presence at the back. It is going to be very exciting to see her continue to develop as a person and player in her time at Lackawanna and in Region XIX."
Midfielder/Defender | 5-foot-3 | Wilkes Barre, Pa. | E.L. Meyers HS
Roediger on Bruno: "Ashley (Bruno) is a dual-sport athlete coming to also play softball for coach Jeff Pittman. She brings a great engine and tremendous athletic ability to our squad. A local product of E.L. Meyers in Wilkes-Barre where she played a number of various roles and positions, she is going to fit nicely into our tactical set-up. She visited during our first Official Visit Day in January and she confirmed everything we had seen during the high school season. We are excited to have Ashley as a part of this foundation class."
Goalkeeper | 5-foot-4 | Oakdale, Pa. | West Allegheny HS
Roediger on Hardiman: "Meghan (Hardiman) was first identified by (Lackawanna Assistant Coach) Les Smith. She attended our first Official Visit Day in January and it was obvious she was a player we wanted in our program. She has good command of the area, is a shot stopper who can start counter attacks with her distribution. I am really looking forward to seeing Meghan develop as a person and player."
Forward | 5-foot-5 | Mahaut, Dominica | Isaiah Thomas Secondary
Roediger on Joseph: "Jodie (Joseph) is a youth national team pool player for Dominica. She brings pace and creativity in wide areas. She has the ability to find the back of the net herself and create opportunities for teammates. She comes via coach Kenneth Eaprit who produces quality players with high character. It's going to be exciting to see her continue to develop this fall."
Midfielder | 5-foot-5 | Kingstown, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
Roediger on Ottley: "Kyla (Ottley) brings international experience having been a captain in the women's national team program for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. She's trained under a good friend of mine, coach Morris Mark who has produced many national team players. Kyla has good play-making ability in and around the goal and a wide passing range from deep. Add those attributes to her engine in midfield and being fearless to win a challenge, and she brings a lot to the program on and off the pitch. I'm excited to see Kyla continue to develop this season."
Defender | 5-foot-6 | Harveys Lake, Pa. | Lake-Lehman Jr/Sr HS |
Roediger on Pattla: "Kitt (Pattla) is someone I think was highly under rated locally. Originally, we found her during the high school season and witnessed her shutting down some of the highest rated attacking players each and every match. She breaks the lines in passing from the back, is very athletic, super coachable and humble, yet a fierce competitor. She visited during our first Official Visit Day in January and she confirmed everything I had seen previously. It is going to be exciting to coach her and help her continue to develop and grow."
Forward | 5-foot-3 | Mahaut, Dominica | Isaiah Thomas Secondary
Roediger on Pierre-Louis: Leedin (Pierre-Louis) is a Dominica youth national team player with great experience and a product of coach Kenneth Eaprit who produces quality players with high character. She brings great work-rate to go along with her ability to play several positions in the attack where she can put the ball in the back of the net while also creating opportunities for teammates. It's going to be fun to coach her and see her continued development."
Midfielder | 5-foot-3 | Bayonne, N.J. | Bayonne HS
Roediger on Rivera: "Jae (Rivera) is a technical defensive player who will sacrifice herself for the team and yet get forward and help in the attack. I'm excited to have her get on the field this fall after working extremely hard to get back from an injury while also serving our country in the Army National Guard. Through these experiences she brings a special maturity and leadership that our program really will benefit from."
Midfielder | 5-foot-6 | Mahaut, Dominica
Roediger on Samuel: "Henrica (Samuel) brings a wealth of international experience having represented Dominica at the senior women's national team level while also being the under-20 women's national team captain. She has been developed by coach Kenneth Eaprit who produces quality players with high character. She gives us a fantastic presence in the center of the park where she can stop opposition attacks, spring counter attacks or keep possession for us in tight spaces. She is going to be fun to coach and see develop."
Midfielder | 5-foot-5 | Grove City, Pa. | Grove City HS | Washington & Jefferson College
Roediger on Smith: "Alexa (Smith) comes to us after making 18 appearances as a freshman for the Presidents' Athletic Conference Semifinalists Washington & Jefferson College. She brings a special physical and technical presence to the squad that makes her very versatile. There are few players out there who will be able to match her physicality. Her experience playing in the PAC brings something special to this group and its going to be exciting to see her continue to progress this fall."
SHENICE ST JEAN
Defender | 5-foot-5 | East End, British Virgin Islands
Roediger on St Jean: "Sheniece (St Jean) is an athletic defender who brings tremendous experience having played under Morris Mark for the British Virgin Islands Women's National Team. She is fearless in the tackle and will be a presence in the box on attacking set pieces. She is going to be fun to coach and it will be exciting to see her progress over the next two seasons."
Midfield | 5-foot-6 | Orefield, Pa. | Northwestern Lehigh HS
Roediger on Willis: "Cat (Willis) is a technical player with a great personality and leadership qualities. She's another player with great experience as she helped lead Northwestern Lehigh to a PIAA AA State Runner-Up in 2017. Her leadership and selfless personality really add something special to our program on and off the pitch. I'm really looking forward to coaching Cat, and it's going to be very exciting to see her continue to develop."
