LADY FALCONS PUNCH TICKET TO DII NJCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT

(Loch Sheldrake, NY)– Saturday afternoon, Lackawanna College played SUNY Sullivan for a chance to claim a spot in the 2019 NJCAA DII Women's Basketball Tournament. The Lady Falcons took advantage of that opportunity by beating SUNY Sullivan 77-55 to earn a ticket into the nationals. They still must play tomorrow against Union County College to determine what district they will represent. The winner will be the District N representative and the loser will represent District O. Tip-off for tomorrow's contest is scheduled for 12:00pm.

Lackawanna College got off to a fast start in Saturday's District Tournament elimination game. They found success from outside the arc early, knocking down three 3-pointers in the first quarter to take a lead that would never be relinquished. Shaylah Green was credited with two of those buckets and another field goal to give herself 8 points in the period. The Falcons' defense held SUNY Sullivan to just 10 points as Lackawanna ended the quarter with a 23-10 lead. Lackawanna scored another 23 points in the second quarter as Ciaira Loyd recorded ten of her sixteen points. During that quarter, the Lady Falcons took a 20-point lead and ended the half leading 46-26.

Lackawanna's defense continued to be a strong factor throughout the game. They held SUNY Sullivan to thirteen points in the third quarter, and recorded twelve steals by the end of the contest. They also played the boards well, accumulating thirty-seven total rebounds. Six Lady Falcons would score in the fourth quarter as Lackawanna finished the contest with a 77-55 victory over SUNY Sullivan,

Jasmine Lewis: 10 points, 5 total rebounds, 2 steals

This year's national tournament will be hosted by North Arkansas College at Harrison, Arkansas, from March 19th through the 23rd.
