Lady Falcons Lose Region XIX Championship in Double Overtime 79-69

(Scranton, PA) – The Lady Falcons lost a thriller in Double Overtime Sunday afternoon against Union County College. Union would win the game 79-69 to capture the Region XIX Women's Basketball Championship. This does not mark the end of the Lady falcons season however; they will still advance to next week's District Playoffs for a chance to compete in the NJCAA National Tournament.

A big crowd came out to the Student Union to see a hotly contested Region XIX Women's Championship. Both teams were locked in, and at several points in the first half a few tempers flared. Shaylah Green was the Lady Falcons high scorer in the first two quarters, she finished the half with 13 points. Ciaira Loyd again played the role of ball handler, recording 3 assists and she took point on most of Lackawanna's plays. Lackawanna went into the locker room with a 30-25 lead.

Lackawanna and Union contested every single possession well into the second half. The Lady Falcons extended their largest lead inside the second half, 53-43. Union would work their way back into the game, as Union's Jessica Washington scored 20 points. The championship would come down to Lackawanna leading by 3 points with just a few seconds left in the 4th quarter.  The Owls would heave up a half-court shot and Lackawanna's Taylor-Rae Styles would give up a foul. Union sunk all 3 free-throws and sent it to overtime. It took double overtime to get a victor. Union would pull away late to clinch a 79-69 win.
