(Scranton, PA) – Thursday's game was a night full of numbers at the Student Union. Coach Whittington won her 100th career game, Lackawanna won 78-76 over Monroe College, the Lady Falcons extended their win streak to 14 games by overcoming a 15-point deficit, and their record is now 15-3 (9-2).
The first half did not go as planned for the Lady Falcons. Monroe College's Devon Adams recovered 9 total rebounds and had 3 blocked shots. She cut off Lackawanna from scoring inside the paint, which the Falcons have done with ease all season. Just before the half Lackawanna trailed 39-24, but were able to go into halftime with a 39-29 score line. The Lady Falcons comeback story started in the second half.
The Lady Falcons came out of the locker room determined to not let the game get out of hand. Lackawanna played more aggressively for the ball, amassing 13 team steals. Briaunna McCullough was the player of the game for Lackawanna, scoring 22 points including 5 buckets from outside the arc.
The Lady Falcons would finally tie the game with 1:22 left in the fourth quarter after chipping away at Monroe College's lead. Winning 78-76 with 4.1 seconds left in the game, Chyna Wooten was put on the foul line. She missed her final free throw, but she hustled to gather the rebound and run out the clock. Lady Falcons win 78-76 in the most exciting game of the season. Head Coach Joya Whittington claimed her 100th career win as well.
