Scranton, PA - Saturday afternoon, the Lackawanna College Women's Basketball team clinched a bye into the Region XIX Division II Women's Basketball Tournament with a 74-43 win over County College of Morris. The Lady Falcons victory gives them a Region win/loss record of 16-1 with three conference games left to play. Even if Lackawanna lost all three of those contests, the only team that has a mathematical chance to tie Lackawanna would be Harcum College. Because of the home and away matchup with the Bears where the Lady Falcons swept both games, the tie breaker would go to Lackawanna. The bye into the Regional Tourney is especially important to the Falcons since they are now guaranteed to play all tournament games on their home court, since Lackawanna is the host site of the 2018 tournament the weekend of February 24 - 25.
Performances by Laquana Nagbe, Ariana Sanders and Tearia Hartley were key to the Falcons' victory. Nagbe led the team in both scoring and assists with 14 points and 6 assists. Hartley contributed a double – double of 10 points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 rebounds tied her with Brittany Roberts for the team high in that category. Finally, Ariana Sanders added a double – digit scoring effort of 11 points to the teams winning efforts.
The Lady Falcons return to the court on Monday when they host Harford Community College at the Student Union. Monday's contest is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
