Lackawanna falls to Nationally ranked Johnson County

Harrison, AR – The Lackawanna College women's basketball team knew they had a real challenge in their opening game of the 2017 NJCAA DII Women's Basketball Tournament. They were seeded in the tourney as the 15th seed and were scheduled to play Johnson County Community College, the #2 seed and the 3rd ranked team in the NJCAA DII Women's Basketball Poll.  Although the Falcons played competitively over the last three quarters being outscored by JCCC by no more than five points in any of those frames, a 19-5 start placed them in a position from which they could not rebound, as they fell to Johnson County 72-44.

In the loss, Paris Thompson was the Lackawanna's top scorer with ten points, while Quieterriua Gross was the top rebounder with eight. Ariana Sanders had three of the Lady Falcon's six steals.

As a result of the defeat, Lackawanna falls into the consolation bracket which allows teams losing in the opening round to play for a 7th or 8th place finish in the National Tourney's final results. Lackawanna will now play again on Thursday morning when they play Moraine Valley in a 10:00 AM EDT game.
