Scranton, PA: Lackawanna College is honored to announce that Alexandra Jackson, a member of its women's basketball team, has been selected to the Region XIX Division II Women's Basketball All-Region First Team and its 2017 "Player of the Year". This honor was bestowed upon her as the top vote recipient in the voting for the women's All Region XIX DII Team.
Jackson, a sophomore on this year's team, scored 378 points in 25 games, an average of 15.1 per game. As a guard, she dished out 113 assists and was credited with 66 steals. Jackson was not afraid to help under the boards, as she also collected 92 rebounds.
In her two-year career at Lackawanna, Jackson started in 49 of the team's 50 games and scored a total of 591 points while registering 230 assists and 134 steals. She grabbed 175 rebounds and was credited with 20 blocks.
Previous to her selection to as the "Player of the Year" and the All Region Team, Jackson was also named the NJCAA DII women's player for week 14 of the 2016/17 basketball season and the EPAC Athletic of the Week for the week ending November 12th, 2016.
On learning of her selection, Lackawanna's head coach, Joya Whittington, said "This is a tremendous honor for Alex, the team and the entire school. The great thing about Lackawanna is that every department has a hand in on pushing our student athletes and helping them achieve success. I could not be more proud of Alex and her ability to produce in the face of adversity."
Jackson's contributions to the Falcons' basketball program has not to an end. Next week she and her teammates will be participating in the NJCAA DII Women's Basketball Tournament starting on March 21 at Northern Arkansas College in Harrison, Arkansas.
