Lackawanna College women's basketball head coach, Joya Whittington, can't wait till to see how her freshman laden team performs against an opponent, rather than each other. On Saturday, she will get that opportunity, as she takes her team on a road trip to Manheim, Pennsylvania to participate in a JUCO jamboree, sponsored by the Spooky Nook Sports Complex.
Whittington said "This will the be the first of four scrimmages that I am using to evaluate how well our freshmen will adjust to the faster pace of college basketball. Although, we look good in practice, I want to see what we do against competition in a game situation. Also, since Harcum College and Union County College are also participating, I will get a chance to see how our team stacks up against two of the elite teams in Region XIX."
The other three scrimmages that Whittington referenced are against Northampton County Community College, a Region XIX DIII powerhouse, on October 20th; Keystone College on October 26th; and Kings College on October 29th. Both the Northampton and Kings scrimmage will be held at Lackawanna College's Student Union, while the Keystone scrimmage will be played at Keystone's LaPlume, Pennsylvania, campus.
The Lady Falcons' season opener is scheduled for November 1st, against Luzerne County Community College. That contest will be played at Luzerne's Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, campus and is scheduled for a 5:00 PM tip-off.
