The Lackawanna College Athletic Department and its women's basketball program are honored to announce that three players from its 2014-2015 roster have been named to the Region XIX, Division II All Region Team. Both Kayla Henderson and Kwanza Murray were selected to the All-Region First Team; while Darian Johnson received Second Team honors. All three honorees are freshman and are the most proficient scorers on the Lady Falcons' 2014-2015 squad.
Of the three, Kwanza Murray was the leading scorer with 408 points, a 14.6 per game scoring average; she grabbed 193 rebounds and dished out 88 assists. Kayla Henderson followed with 363 points, a 13.0 point per game average, 221 rebounds and 72 assists. Finally, Darian Johnson recorded 356 points, 65 rebounds and 41 assists. Her 88 three pointers ranked Johnson 6th in that NJCAA DII statistical category; and, her three point shooting percentage of 40.7% ranked her 21st.
Upon learning that her players had been selected for this honor, head coach, Joya Whittington said, "I am so proud of each of them. They deserve this recognition for the hard work and dedication that each exhibited this past season." Joya added, "These ladies represent the strength and the future of our program. They, like their teammates continued to fight through all the adversity that comes with this level of competition, supporting each other down the stretch and finding a way to win games. Committed to raising their game to the next level, Kayla, Kwanza, Darian and their teammates are always on the court improving their game, even when I give them an off days."
Murray, a 5-8 guard / forward, is a graduate of Summerville High School and resident of Summerville, South Carolina; Henderson, a 5-7 guard, graduated Central High and is a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; while Johnson, a 5-4 guard, is a graduate of New Castle High School and resides in New Castle, Pennsylvania.
