Newark, PA: The Lackawanna College Women's Basketball team beat Essex County College 79-47 to place them in prime position to play Union County College for the number one seed the Region XIX's Division II Women's Basketball Tournament. That game will be played on Tuesday at Union County College next Tuesday. Although Union can play themselves out of contention by losing their next three games, that scenario is quite unlikely. As it stands tonight, Lackawanna with its 16-1 win/loss is the only team that is guaranteed a bye into the semi-finals of the Region Tournament.
The top performer in tonight's win was Darrien Johnson with 23 points, 21 of which scored from beyond the three point line. Others contributing stellar performances were Kwanza Murray with 13 points and 8 rebounds; Brianna Franklin with 12 points and Tiffany Then with 11. Kayla Henderson excelled on the boards with 11 rebounds, while Rahkiya Abdullah came within an assist of having a double digit night in that category. He ended the night with 9.
The Lady Falcons retake the floor again on Saturday when they host Monroe College at the Student Union. Game time for that contest is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
