Lady Falcons Defeat Cumberland County College 5-3 & 12-3

(Vineland, NJ) – Lackawanna Softball took to the road on Saturday afternoon to play Cumberland County College in a double-header. Lackawanna defeated Cumberland twice, 5-3 and 12-3. These wins boosted the Lady Falcons record to 21-10.

Lackawanna scored early in game 1 as Marlena Pegula doubled to center field scoring Colleen Cwalina. Cumberland added a run of their own in the bottom of the 1st by scoring on a ground ball up the middle. The Lady Falcons added 2 runs in the top of the 2nd. Vanessa Wolf hit a fly ball to the pitcher which resulted in an error and Jordan Skoff scored. Courtney Hoffman hit a line drive on the next at-bat, she reached on an error as Wolf scored. Another run wouldn't come until the bottom of the 5th as Cumberland scored on a single. Lackawanna added 2 runs again in the top of the 6th, Vanessa Wolf hit a 2-run homer to center field. The Lady Falcons went on to win 5-3. The winning pitcher was Marlena Pegula. She pitched 5 innings, gave up 12 hits and 2 earned runs. She also struck out 5 batters.

Game 2 saw the Lady Falcons light up the scoreboard in the 1st inning. They scored 9 runs. Notably, Marlena Pegula doubled home a run, Lauryn Rodriguez hit an RBI line drive to right, and Alexandria Thoman doubled 2 runs home to right field. Lackawanna struck again in the top of the 2nd as Lauryn Rodriguez cracked a 2-RBI line drive to center field. Lady Falcons led 11-0. After adding another run in the 5th inning, the Lady Falcons won 12-3 as the game was called off after 5 innings of play. The winning pitcher was Amanda Mowry. She pitched 3 innings, gave up 1 hit and no earned runs.
