Lackawanna Softball Splits Region XIX Double-Header with CC of Morris

(Randolph, NJ) – Lackawanna Softball began Region XIX play on Tuesday afternoon as they took to the field against County College of Morris. The Lady Falcons lost game one 3-0 and won game two 10-6. Lackawanna's record now stands at 19-10 (1-1).

The first game did not go as planned for the Lady Falcons. They only managed 1 hit, recorded 3 errors, and gave up 3 runs. Mia Pawelski broke up a no-hitter late in the game as she hit a single in the top of the 7th. Morris scored 2 of their 3 runs in the bottom of the first. A sac-fly and an RBI single gave them the early advantage. The only other run scored was off of a solo-homer for Morris in the bottom of the 4th. CC of Morris won 3-0. The losing pitcher was Amanda Mowry. She pitched 6 innings, allowed 6 hits and 3 earned runs.

The bats came alive for Lackawanna in game 2. The Lady Falcons scored 2 runs in the top of the 1st as Jordan Skoff and Hayley Coale hit RBI singles to the outfield. Morris drove home 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st. Lackawanna would add 2 more runs in the next inning as Courtney Hoffman singled on a bunt to bring home Alexandria Thoman and Lauryn Rodriguez advanced to home. Morris brought in 2 runs again in the bottom of the 3rd to tie the game 4-4. Lackawanna opened up the game in the top of the 4th by scoring 6 runs. Courtney Hoffman doubled to left for the first run. A few batters later Marlena Pegula singled on a line drive to left to bring home the second run. Jordan Skoff hit a sac-fly 3 pitches later for another run. Amanda Mowry hit an RBI single to center. Alexandria Thoman doubled in 2 runs on a shot to left to make it 10-4. Morris answered back with 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th but that was all they could muster. Lackawanna won 10-6. The winning pitcher was Mia Pawelski. She pitched 5 innings, gave up 8 hits and 6 earned runs. She also threw 5 strikeouts.
