Lady Falcons Go 1-1 at Onondaga CC Softball Invitational

(Syracuse, NY) – The Lady Falcons competed in the Onondaga CC Softball Invitational on Friday. Lackawanna lost game 1 against Onondaga CC 4-2 and defeated Mercyhurst Northeast 5-2. The Lady Falcons record now sits at 17-8.

Lackawanna and Onondaga held each other to 0-0 through 4 innings. Lauryn Rodriguez started the top of the 5th with a single. She advanced to 3rd over the next few batters allowing Colleen Cwalina to hit a sac-fly to the right fielder to score Rodriguez. Onondaga struck back with patience in the bottom of the 5th. With the bases loaded, Lackawanna's Amanda Mowry walked home Onondaga's first run. Onondaga added 3 more runs in the bottom of the 6th off of a home run and a 2 RBI single. Marlena Pegula showed patience of her own in the top of the 7th, she drew a walk to get a run across the plate. The Lady Falcons couldn't capitalize any farther with their base runners, Onondaga won 4-2. The losing pitcher was Marlena Pegula. She pitched 1.2 innings, giving up 3 hits and 3 earned runs.

Gabrielle Vuocolo: 3-4

The Lady Falcons started their game against Mercyhurst with a run in the top of the 1st. Colleen Cwalina tripled on a line drive to right field.  She was knocked in on the next batter as Marlena Pegula singled to short. Mercyhurst answered back in the bottom of the 1st with a 2-run homer. The Lady Falcons took advantage of a fielding error by Mercyhurst to put Colleen Cwalina on base and advance Gabrielle Vuocolo to 3rd. Marlena Pegula grounded out to 3rd but Vuocolo scored to tie the game 2-2. Lackawanna regained the lead two batters later as Jordan Skoff singled to center to drive home Cwalina. The Lady Falcons added another run in the top of the 5th. Marlena Pegula grounded out to 3rd again but Alexandria Thoman made it home from 3rd. In the top of the 6th, Hana Ford hit an RBI single to the short-stop to score Jordan Skoff from 3rd. Lackawanna won 5-2. The winning pitcher was Mia Pawelski. She pitched 7 innings, gave up 5 hits and 2 earned runs.  She also struck out 5 batters.

The Lady Falcons would head back home for a double-header on Sunday March 31st. Lackawanna will face Rowan College at Burlington County; first pitch will be at 12:00pm.
