(Scranton, PA) – The Lady Falcons of Lackawanna College took on Monroe College for a double-header on Wednesday afternoon. Lackawanna lost game one, 6-3 and won game two, 2-0. Their record now rests at 16-7.
Monroe College started off the game scoring 2 runs on a homerun to center field. The Lady Falcons would strike back in the bottom of the 3rd, as Gabrielle Vuocolo struck a solo homer to left field. Alexandria Thoman then hit an RBI line drive to right field. The Mustangs broke the game open in the top of the 7th as they singled home a run and doubled home two more on the very next batter. Colleen Cwalina helped Lackawanna put up a fight in the bottom of the 7th as she hit a deep homer to left field. Monroe won 6-3. The losing pitcher was Marlena Pegula. She pitched 6.1 innings, gave up 11 hits and 6 earned runs.

Game 2 saw minimal scoring but a complete game shutout pitched by Mia Pawelski helped the Lady Falcons along. Lackawanna scored their only 2 runs of the game in the bottom of the 1st. Courtney Hoffman hit a fly ball to left and reached on an error. Two batters later Colleen Cwalina hit a homer to center field to give the Lady Falcons a 2-0 lead. Both pitchers held tight and Lackawanna won 2-0. The winning pitcher was Mia Pawelski. She pitched a complete game (7 innings) and gave up 6 hits with no earned runs.

The Lady Falcons will play in the Onondaga CC Softball Invitational on Friday March 29th. They will take on Onondaga CC at 11:00am. Lackawanna will then play Mercyhurst North East at 1:15pm.
