Scranton, PA: Lackawanna College is honored to announce that a member of its 2018 softball team, Colleen Cwalina, has been named to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II All-American Softball Team. Cwalina was selected to the NJCAA's Third Team after previously being honored by Region XIX as its Division II First Team Designated Player
During the 2018 season, the freshman Catcher/First Baseman/Designated Player hit .420 with six home runs. 43 RBIs, 28 runs scored and two stolen bases. She had 50 hits in 119 at bats with 16 doubles, a triple and her six homers. Her OBA was .453, while her SLG was .723.
On learning of her selection to the NJCAA All-American Third Team, Cwalina said, "It is an honor to be recognized for my individual effort. I wouldn't be in this position if it wasn't for coaches who gave me numerous opportunities to display my abilities, for that I will be forever be thankful. Without the support of my teammates and the guidance from my coaches I wouldn't be in this position."
In learning of her selection for All-American honors, Cwalina's head coach, Jeff Pittsman, said "Both my staff and I are extremely happy for Colleen. She was a key batter in our order and instrumental in our team advancing to the Regional Tournament. It's great to see that her accomplishments did not go unrewarded."
Cwalina is a resident of Swoyersville, Pennsylvania and graduate Wyoming Valley West. She is the first Lady Falcon to earn all American honors since 2009 when Sam Pientack was named to the NJCAA's Second Team as a catcher.
In addition to her softball accomplishments, Colleen was also a starting forward on the Lady Falcons' Women's Basketball Team.
