Pemberton, NJ – Saturday afternoon the Lackawanna College Softball team split a Region XIX Division II twin bill with Rowan College at Burlington County. Playing at RCBC, the Falcons claimed a 6-1 victory in the opening game, only to lose the nightcap 3-2 on a Burlington bases loaded walk off sacrifice fly in the seventh.
In game one, Lackawanna got their offense started in the second inning, when Lauryn Rodriguez drove in two runs with a single. As it turned out, that was the only runs the Lady Falcons needed as Amanda Mowry held the Barons to only one run in her complete game victory. The Falcons did add a cushion to their lead when they scored three runs in sixth, when Colleen Cwalina doubled in two runs and scored on Paige Durkin's sacrifice fly, and an unearned run in the seventh
The Lackawanna batters combined for seven hits, with Paige Durkin and Marina Pegula each having multi-hit games. Durkin was two for three with a run scored and a RBI. Her two hits were singles. Pegula had two singles in her three plate appearances, Besides Cwalina's double in the sixth, Brenda Reninga had the only other Falcon extra base hit, a double.
Amanda Mowry was the winning pitcher, as she held RCBC to a solo run over seven innings on seven hits. Mowry struck out seven in her ninth mound win of the 2018 season.
In game two, both teams struggled to put runs on the scoreboard. The Falcons' scored an unearned run in the third and an earned run in the fifth. While, RCBC answered with runs in the fourth, sixth and their walk off run in the seventh to give them the 3-2 win.
In the loss, the Falcons had six base hits all singles. Brenda Reninga and Shea Petty had five of those hits, with Reninga going three for four and Petty two for three. Petty also scored solo run. The Falcons' other base hit was contributed by Kacey Orlowski.
Orlowski was Lackawanna's starter. She gave up two runs on five hits over five and one third innings but was not the pitcher of record. Ashley Walsh suffered the loss after giving up one run on one hit over one and one third innings of relief.
Tomorrow's home non-conference doubleheader against Brookdale Community College has been cancelled due to predicted inclement weather. The Lady Falcons will now take the field again on Tuesday when they play at Lehigh Carbon Community College in an Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference doubleheader. Those games will start at 3:30 PM.
Tomorrow's twin bill will not be rescheduled.
