Catonsville, MD – Sunday afternoon, the Lackawanna College Softball team split its doubleheader with CCBC Catonsville. The Lady Falcons outscored Catonsville 8-7 in the opener, before dropping the nightcap by a 7-4 score.
In the opener, Colleen Cwalina slammed a solo seventh inning home run to break a 6-6 tie. The Cwalina dinger gave the Falcons the margin of victory it needed, as Ashley Walsh shut down Catonsville in the bottom of that inning.
Lackawanna scored eight runs on eight hits in the victory. Kacey Orlowski had the Falcons' only multi-hit game. She singled twice and doubled in four at bats. She also scored once and drove in three more. Ashley Walsh had the most productive one hit game as she drove in two runs with a single. Cwalina's go ahead homer was the Lady Falcons' only other extra base hit.
Alexandria Thoman was credited with win after holding Catonsville scoreless on one hit in two innings of relief. Ashley Walsh earned a save by shutting down the Cardinals in the bottom of the seventh.
In the nightcap, the Falcons erased a four-run deficit, to tie the Cardinals at four-all in the top of the sixth. Unfortunately, they gave up three in the bottom of the innings to see victory slip away.
Lackawanna collected 9 hits in the contest, with three Falcons having multi-hit games. Paige Durkin doubled twice in four at bats. Marina Pegula singled and doubled in three trips to the plate. Pegula also drove in two. Lauryn Rodriguez singled twice in three official trips to the plate, while also scoring once. The Falcons' other extra base hit was a Colleen Cwalina leadoff home run in the top of the fourth.
Kacey Orlowski suffered the loss.
Lackawanna will return to the diamond on March 27th when they host Orange County Community College at Sherwood Park in Dunmore, Pennsylvania. The match-up against Orange is a doubleheader and is scheduled for a 2:00 PM first pitch.
