Randolph, NJ - Sunday afternoon, the Lackawanna College softball team claimed the Region XIX Division II Softball Title by beating County College of Morris, 4-3. The win completed one of the biggest upsets in Region history.  The Lady Falcons entered the Tournament as the fourth place seed, with a 3-7 conference record and 20-12 overall. In the two days of tournament play, they went undefeated, by beating the number one seed, CC of Morris, twice by 4-3 scores and by shutting out third seeded Mercer County Community College, 2-0. The most amazing aspect of the 3-0 sweep of the tourney championship was the fact that the Lady Falcons did it as the away team and were behind in two of the three games. The Region XIX Title is the Falcons' first since 2002.

Kacey Orlowski was the Tournament MVP after shutting out and homering against Mercer, and driving in two key RBI's in today's contest.

Today, Morris took a two run lead in the bottom of the first inning. Not to be discouraged, Lackawanna rebounded in the top of second on RBI singles by Orlowski and Paige Durkin.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Titans reclaimed the lead with another run, only to see Lackawanna tie the game in the top of the sixth on a Sierra Mulgrew walk, a Brenda Reninga sacrifice bunt, a Lauren Leppo single and Orlowski's second RBI of the contest by way of a sacrifice fly to center.

In the top of the seventh, the Lady Falcons pushed across, what proved to be, the winning run, when Moriah Lynn singled and stole second. She moved over to third on Barbara Verrastro's single and was driven in by Mulgrew's single.

In the bottom of the inning, Verrastro walked the lead-off hitter, but saw that threat erased when Lackawanna catcher. Ashley Rzesewski, gunned her down on an attempted steal. Verrastro then induced a groundout to third and a fly out to center to claim the title.

Verrastro was credited with the win by hurling a seven inning complete game, while holding the Titans to three runs on three hits. Her pitching record for the 2017 season is now 12-6.

At the plate, both Leppo and Mulgrew led the Falcon hitters with multi-hit games. Leppo had two singles in three at bats with a run scored. Mulgrew had two singles and a walk in four plate appearances. She also scored once and drove in a run. Lackawanna was held to one extra base hit, a double by Marina Pegula.

Lackawanna now hosts the NJCAA District K Playoffs next weekend; a best of three held series between Lackawanna and Mercyhurst North East.
