Randolph, NJ - Sierra Mulgrew's sixth inning two run home run propelled Lackawanna College to a 4-3 upset of County College of Morris in the opening game of the Region XIX Division II Softball Tournament. Mulgrew's slam came with the score tied at two, and drove in Barbara Verrastro who singled earlier in the inning. Verrastro, Lackawanna's starting pitcher, thereafter held Morris to a single run over the last two innings to clinich the win.
Verrastro was credited with the win, her eleventh of the season, after holding CCM to three runs and seven hits over seven innings. She struck out three Titan hitters.
Besides Mulgrew, both Ashley Rzeweski and Paige Durkin contributed to the win. Rzeweski drove in a run with two singles in four at bats. Durkin also drove in a run with a single in three plate appearances.
With the win, Lackawanna moved into the 2 PM winner's bracket game against the winner of the contest between Delaware Technical Community College and Mercer County Community College. Lackawanna's win also guaranteed that the Falcons will be somewhere in the mix during Sunday's championship round.
