Scranton, PA – Lackawanna College is honored to announce that three members of its 2017 softball team have been named to the All Region XIX Division II Softball Team. Moriah Lynn and Sierra Mulgrew were selected for the Region's First Team, while Barbara Verrastro was named to the Region's Second Team.
Selection are made by weighted vote of the Region's head coaches. Based on that system, Lynn received the second most votes after a season where she had a Batting Average of .480, recorded a .500 OBP and logged a .790 SLG. She had 48 hits in 100 ABs, with 12 doubles eight triples and a homer. Lynn scored 25 runs and drove in 22 more. She made the team as an infielder.
Mulgrew earned her spot on the team as an outfielder, with a batting average of .433, an OBA of .454 and a SLG of .678. She had 39 hits in 90 At Bats with 13 doubles, three triples and a home run. Mulgrew scored 27 times and drove in an additional team high 31 runs. Earlier this year she was named the NJCAA Division II Player of the Week for her performance during week seven of the 2017 NJCAA Season.
Verrastro made the second team as a pitcher. During the season she won ten games and loss six with an ERA of 3.38. In 91 innings, she gave up 90 hits and 60 runs, only 44 of which were earned. Verrastro struck out a team high of 78 opponents. This past month, she signed an NCAA Letter of Intent to attend Saint Peter's University in Jersey City, New Jersey.
