Barbara's Verrastro extended her scoreless consecutive innings streak to 24, as she pitched a seven inning 9-0 shutout in the opening game of Friday's Region XIX Division II doubleheader against Raritan Valley Community College. In the second game the Falcons again held the Lions scoreless as Kacey Orlowski pitched a seven inning 16-0 shutout.
Game One: Verrastro's shutout was her ninth win of the season. She hurled seven innings relinquishing two hits and struck out seven.
At the plate, Marina Pegula, Ashley Rzesewski and Verrastro all contributed a triple, while Paige Durkin added a double to go along with a single. Other Falcons with multi-hit games were Taylor Maloney and Sierra Mulgrew, both of whom had two singles each. Six Falcons each drove in one run each. They were Moriah Lynn, Kelly Snyder, Verrastro, Mulgrew, Durkin and Rzesewski.
Game Two: Orlowski threw a one hitter, holding Raritan Valley scoreless over seven innings. She struck out eight.
Moriah Lynn highlighted the Falcons hitting performance with a home run, a triple and three RBIs. In addition to Lynn's efforts, four Falcon hitters had three hit games. Orlowski helped her cause with a single, double and a triple; Barbara Verrastro singled and doubled twice with four RBIs; Kelly Snyder singled three times and drove in three runs; while Brenda Reninga singled twice and doubled.
Lackawanna plays again tomorrow in a non-conference twin bill at Monroe College in New Rochelle, New York. Start time for game one is scheduled for 12:00 PM
