Dunmore, PA - Hurling her third five inning shutout in her last three starts, Barbara Verrastro led the Lackawanna College softball team to a sweep of their Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Association twin bill against Montgomery County Community College. Relying on Verrastro's shutout performance, the Falcons took game one 8-0, before outscoring the Mustangs 9-1 in game two.
In the first contest, Verrastro claimed her eighth victory of the year, by holding Montgomery scoreless on one hit over five innings. She struck out 8 Mustang batters.
Lackawanna's Moriah Lynn had the game's most impressive hitting performance, with a single, double and triple in four at bats. Lynn also scored twice and drove in two runs. In addition to Lynn's performance, Kacey Orlowski singled, doubled and walked in three plate appearances; Sierra Mulgrew drove in two runs with two singles in four trips to the plate; Verrastro helped her own cause with an RBI double; while, Verrastro's battery mate, Ashley Rzesewski, also contributed an RBI double.
In game two, Kacey Orlowski claimed her eighth win of the season, after shutting out the Mustangs on three hits over four innings of work. In addition, she added five strike outs. Moriah Lynn pitched last two innings in relief, relinquishing one run on two hits over two innings. Lynn recorded three strike outs.
At the plate, Lynn had her second multi-hit game of the day, contributing a single and double in three at bats. Barbara Verrastro also had a two hit game, driving in four runs with a single and double in three plate appearances. Both Ashley Rzesewski and Sierra Mulgrew contributed to the game two victory, as each drove in two runs with their second double of the doubleheader.
Lackawanna plays again tomorrow when the Falcons travel to Branchburg Township, New Jersey to play an important Region XIX Division II doubleheader. Game one is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
