Verrastro No-Hits Orange in Five Inning Shutout

Dunmore, PA – Barbara Verrastro pitched a five inning no-hitter, and her second shutout in two days, to lead the Lackawanna College softball team to a non-conference doubleheader victory over Orange County Community College. The Falcons used Verrastro's pitching performance to take the opener 8-0 and then claimed the nightcap by outscoring the Colts 14-1.

In game one, Verrastro claimed her seventh victory of the year by hurling her no-no over five innings, while striking out nine. It was her first no-hitter in her two year pitching career at Lackawanna.

At the plate, Verrastro provided support for her efforts, with two singles in four at bats with a run scored and a run driven in. Moriah Lynn and Marina Pegula also contributed with three hit games. Pegula scored twice and drove in run on three singles in three plate appearances; while Lynn singled twice and tripled in four visits to the plate. Lynn scored twice. Paige Durkin also added two RBIs with a single.

In the nightcap, Lackawanna scored 12 runs over the first two innings, to cruise to a five inning victory. Kacey Orlowski was credited with the win, her seventh of the season. Orlowski worked three innings, giving up one run on four hits, while striking out four.

At the plate, Lackawanna had seven hitters, who contributed multi-hit games. Moriah Lynn singled and doubled in three at bats with two RBIs, Sierra Mulgrew singled and doubled in four at bats while driving in two runs; Barbara Verrastro singled twice and drove in two runs in three plate appearances; Marina Pegula singled twice and drove two runs across the plate in three visits to the plate; Kelly Snyder singled twice and added an RBI in four at bats; Taylor Maloney singled twice and drove in two runs in two visits to the plate; and Laureen Leppo singled twice with two RBIs in two plate appearances.

The Lady Falcons will play their last home twin bill of the season on Thursday when they host Montgomery County Community College at Sherwood Park. The first putch for that doubleheader is scheduled for 3:00 PM
